Afriguy, as for your comments earlier about streaming being lighter on the network somehow. YouTube streams via HTTP...

I think you mis-read my post. Under the circumstances, in terms of heavier demand and shaping - we believe we're providing the best possible experience.
So we pray demand go down otherwise "we will still be giving you the best possible experience" hahaha

Same old story.

"We are working on it"

"Engineers are looking into it"

-> Simple. The problem is insufficient IPC capacity to support your clientbase.

I agree, yay money for ah as everyone goes onto business packages, or let's wait and see if these guy will accept our throt...er shaping or let's wait till the abusers from mweb decide they had enough and leave

guys maybe mtn said they can't have more pipe, maybe they need to go back to is or just maybe they need to get bandwidth from mweb, they are teir 1 aren't they, I would find it so funny if they say they resolved the broblem by getting more pipe from i, more funny is mweb and I swear if they say said I would cancel as Ajax I believe only has buy by the GB not Gb

Don't think ah can buy ipc, they need more mtn pipe or mtn needs more ipc

huh?

Badly typed I am on a phone, sorry, to what I understand the only tier ones are Mweb, IS, Saix or 3g providers like voda or mtn, they all need to buy ipc, deacon and sacs at the demand of their customers, home and wholesalers (like ah and openweb) of the wholesaler needs more they go to the teir ones and negotiate the best package for their need, they may take a long time to secure more capacity as the teir one need to organise and upgrade first not to mention all the red tape, that's why i think I will go back to a teir one and stick to them, mweb or tellin hmmm not so. Tough a decision mweb it is

Oh yeah right I get it.

Mweb was a great ISP for me until they started throttling. I didn't mind the shaping during business hours and gaming was always good.

So far Afrihost has been a bit disappointing (jumped over to them as these problems started).

I jumped 2 at the time, I was worried at 300GB but I fail to see why 100GB per mb is a problem, if it is then use he upper account, its not like afrihost isnt forcing our hand either. When I say better account, use a 2mb on a 1 mb, 4mb on a 2Mb or a 10mb on a 4mb and if you really need more a 4mb on on a 1mb or a 10mb on a 2mb, I am very confident it is impossible to reach the thresholds in the second scenario plus its cheaper than the unshaped accounts they offer, yes its shaped yes it won't give you better max rate but you sure won't be or you are.less likely to be throttled

think a bit, mweb always had big users, they didn't brag, they accepted it, if it was really bad they warned them before forcing them onto unshaped, afrihost bragged and they would take the fall if to many heavy users signed up, except I think they thought mweb exagerated how bad it really was and that was their downfall, I think mwebs should send ah a nice bunch of roses and a funeral card and have all their staff dress.in black to mourne for this once great isp. I think meeb really played their cards well and its only a matter of time until everyone realises mweb is still the best. I think they just wanted to create awareness of what an sup is as ah is blaming their sup as the cause of this problem. See it from that angle and I am sure you will go back to mweb on my suggested packwge, anyway atleast mweb can currently play online games

We do understand, even if it doesn't seem like it.
Our team is doing everything they can to work this out, however we still believe that everyone is getting the best possible experience under the circumstances.

Read that as: sitting in the corner crossing their fingers, closing their eyes, and wishing really really hard that people will stop downloading.

Nothing is going to change until they increase capacity. In my experience, that takes a long time, so don't hold your breath for any improvements anytime soon, especially since they haven't made the announcement.

My advice: Any new customers who have been with AH for less than 60 days should take their double money back guarantee and move on.

Streaming doesn't always equal YouTube :) And your other realtime services are still able to be used.

Well Netflix looks like crap and Hulu buffers every minute on my 10mb line so I beg to differ. Your chickens have come home to roost after bragging about how users can download over a terabyte of data in a month. Now you guys are struggling just to keep the lights on.

You have simply OVERSOLD and are now so marginal on capacity that you are having to SHAPE & THROTTLE.

Afriguy, Your best possible experience isn't good enough right now, that's the plain harsh truth. I will give you guys time to fix as I still believe in Afrihost and Will decide by end November whether to continue my service with you or not.

"I think you mis-read our posts. Under the circumstances, in terms of constant demand and shaping - we believe we're not being provided the best possible experience." HOW does reading this feel Afri*?

I'm with Wall, will start shopping around during November for a possible change end of that month if nothing happens (real feedback, or restoration of service levels). If a notice period is going to be introduced, consider this my notice of intention to cancel effective end November then ;)

+1

It might be the best possible experience for the current conditions but there seems to be a big gap between what is expected and what is actually happening.

'No Shaping' for the first time in like 5 weeks....pointless really, at this time of the morning, as i am already at the office.
Anyways lets see how long it will last.

Something really strange last night. Scheduled my downloads from 11:00. I could see shaping relax on my line, but the whole night my 8 meg line was running on at 100kb/s for torrents. Only resetting my router this morning actually gave me full download speed on my torrents again. Modem was syncing at 8 meg as well before restarting. I saw another poster have the same happen on his 2 meg line earlier as well. Really hoping this is not a sign that something bigger is starting to go wrong.

I woke up this morning to no internet. My scheduled downloads started at 23:00 and stopped after 00:00. Internet light on but nobody home. Logged into my IS account to post this.

Similar problem for me, except resetting my router didn't help.
