No problem, they can kick you guys off at 5:15pm when I get home :P

However it is different per IPC, Durban JHB and CPT all under different shaping severity.

Nevermind 5:15pm...just checked clientzone now again...and guess what...

Morning guys

Looks like we have a problem in KZN this morning, we've seen a huge drop off in that part of the network, and we're still investigating the cause of the issue.

We're seeing clients authenticate but get no throughput. We are working with MTN and Telkom to find out what has caused this issue. We're already seeing some increase in traffic, but we'll have to wait to see if we've managed to sort this out yet.

To me it looked like an mtn issue. Even my phone wasnt connecting to the net (running of a normal MTN simcard off the normal MTN APN)

If people are seeing a relief in their shaping now then it shows afrihosts network is under load. but if not. then theres a problem elsewhere.pretty sure KZN uses a fair bit of bandwidth

I still dont know how to read that shaping properly if it was say 75/75 would that mean 75% speed or 25% speed (max speed or ammount shaped)

75% of your line speed is available for your use.

Yes, that correct, the strain is not ever on the MTN network, it related to the IPC which allows us to break out of Telkom's network. That effectively sets the network capacity as the bottleneck for traffic.

If we could break traffic directly onto MTN, that would be crazy awesome :)

So even though we suffer with the shaping, Afrihost wont even assist a client in moving to better suited package at the same price? Even though Afrihost is at fault and not the client?

This account change would be scheduled for the end of the month, if you change the package now. Double check in your ClientZone though :)

Just checked and I'm still at 25%/12,5%. Over a period of about 12 hours I downloaded a whopping 165mb worth of a file. This is really bull. I have always religiously scheduled all downloads overnight but it doesn't really matter. I get screwed all hours.
At this point I'll be lucky if I get 90gig this month.

I'm actually amazed at how everyone has stayed so calm thus far. I'll be doing what everyone else does and give you guys a little more time to sort your s**t out and then I'm off.

I was considering moving to a business account but I have to wonder how long they will remain unaffected. (Basically I'm saying I'm losing all faith in AH). And I don't see why i should have to upgrade and spend more money to get what I need. The product I have should work.

AH, ignore this at your peril. I still remember the debacle when you switched to MTN. I'm sure it took a lot of work to regain client trust after that. This is not doing you any favours now. You either have to find a solution here soon or I guarantee you will start hemorrhaging clients and you'll never get them back. A reputation is very hard to repair.

KZN IPC is totally seperate from JHB. So there would be no linking to shaping at all in other regions. In fact, shaping has been pretty relaxed in all other regions for the most part, but Northern region is showing the most congestion at peak times..

We're seeing similar reports on the MTN mobile issue, so we're still waiting for confirmation on whether the problem is limited to Afrihost Mobile Data or not :(

+1 KingRamses. Like I said in a previous post. AH has to find ways to make this up to us.

I'm really sorry that you are having a terrible experience. I do remember the MTN move, and yes there was a lot of trust lost through some of the issues we faced, but I believe that our accountability and honesty carried us through and we rewarded our clients to thank them for having faith in us. I think it's something that every ISP probably faces at some time, and it's how we hbdle ourselves in the situations that sets the ISP apart, not the issues themselves.

I know we've had more than our fair share of challenges of late, but I have faith in our team and our management that we'll come out of this in our client's favour.

So, you're a) oversubscribed, or b) allowing a handful to decimate your available capacity by bypassing shaping. Which is it?

Forgot IPC plays a role in it too :/

Just be honest for once. Its never worked properly since the move. Its always been oversubscribed ever since. Promises to get more bandwidth. Promises to fix shaping. Promises to do upgrades, promises promises promises.

Big deal. Tell us another story.

That's not a fair take on things, frankly. Since the issues with the initial switch to MTN were ironed out this thread has been a quiet one of, mostly, praise. Things have been a-OK for a year. It just happened to have gone for a ball of **** on the day iOS7 launched.
