It's nifty sure. Let's you know that your line is still active etc.

I would however like them to add the current shaping status to the account status page :)

That would be pretty helpful.

@Robin Hood

Your usage would determine your decision. If your use is ALWAYS under 100gb - then get the capped package as it's unshaped full speed all the time and completely exempt of any shaping protocols.

The 10mb on the other hand will be subject to shaping...if needed when the network takes strain.

In short. More than 100gb usage or not? :D

mmmm...maybe because we ALL are "human"....i think most will agree...more is better...lol

If here are anyone that has an UNCAPPED account with Afrihost 10mbps...On what amount of data do we look at before shapping kicks in? ( more or less )

Have you used the App yet? If you have some comments for our team, they'd be happy to hear your feedback :)

My feedback on the Android App: It doesn't work on my iPad or my mom's iPhone :D
It is therefore really bad and I'll need demonstrative evidence otherwise - like an Android tablet

:D

Hi Robin. There is no amount that will trigger shaping. That is simply not how Afrihost rolls at all. As an example today during business hours I was able to dl at full line speed when I wanted due to zero shaping which in turn was due to no network strain.

Shaping will ONLY ever be applied when there is a capacity problem and they need to prioritise the realtime protocols like browsing, streaming etc over P2P and http downloads etc :)

So you can dl over 500gb on that line ever month with zero worries that your usage will play a roll in any shaping taking place. Your line will always run full speed when possible -which is 96.43% of the time :D (okay I made that up, but you get my point  )

How is Afrihost uncapped performance now days? I changed from a year ago to mweb because they throttled me like crazy, hardly usable at all.

^ full line speed about 70% of the time. They aren't kidding when they say that real-time services are always unshaped and available regardless of usage. On a 1Mb/s account and I've drawn 100 gigs in the 13 days that is this month

This has been an incredible month of AfriHost uncapped internet so far, haven't been shaped once yet. 171gigs downloaded on a 2mb, projected overall of 407gigs, 203 more then I ever managed before. The only possible thing you could do to make me happier would be to drop the cost to R0 and bump the speed to 10mbps :)

and get IPConnect capacity in PE
and give more money to charity
and buy loyal customers (say after 24 months) a jet pack - they are licensing them in NZ

but yes in reality it isn't actually possible for Afrihost to give a better deal at the moment

Have had extremely "laggy" response the past day or so, never experienced it before, even with downloads @ 250KB/s

Linden exchange, download running in background @ ~100KB/s, 3783 kbps sync speed, 4 meg uncapped line

Current shaping status: No Shaping Applied

But general browsing experience feels slow. Have also rebooted PC and router. Things are better since I changed to Google DNS servers from the ISP auto supplied ones...

We used to throttle Uncapped on our previous network, but since our change we only shape P2P traffic (and only when necessary). We never touch real time services like gaming, browsing, streaming, VoIP, etc. We only shape when there is heavy demand on the network, but we do our best to shape the very least amount of clients (starting with the heaviest users) and to the least possible extent so that we can prevent high latency and slow speeds.
