I know it was intended as such, but it's a false reflection of reality. Your customer base isn't some collective consciousness you can hold universally responsible for the state of your network at any given time. It is your responsibility to manage the network in such a fashion that each individual maintains a usable connection regardless of what the collective might be doing.
That's our intention, we feel we are delivering the best experience possible, in light of what clients are collectively demanding in terms of bandwidth. Again, the alternative is throttling, so I'm pretty sure you would not be happy with that
I definitely think that we are on the right track with how we manage the network. As we grow, we'll get better and refine how we do things, and I wouldn't be surprised if others follow.
