14GB total this month. And I'm being shaped and throttled to oblivion even on high priority connections such as streaming audio. No shaping for me? What is your usage for this month so far?
He's calling it vanilla coz I would assume he stays in the northern region and is being shaped a lot, which makes the account a watered down version of what it used to be, like the cheapy IS vanilla accounts.
To answer Grubscrew's question, no there are no static IP's, normally if you restart, you get the same IP, unless you off for a while, like 30 mins, and your session gets terminated or something, then you would get a new IP.

192Kbps audio was stuttering so badly that I could hear about 20% and 80% was just fragmented. Unusable.
This is pathetic, checked 04:30 and now 5am and shaped to 50% Download/ 50% P2P on a Sunday morning! After more than a month of this it is just getting worse, with weekends AND now early hours being shaped pathetically!
It's really well past time Afrihost do something to resolve this issue once and for all.
And by the looks of it, this was my shaping applied all night long, since yesterday afternoon and last night just before 12am when I last checked! On a weekend!
Should have hit that cancel button before the 25th.
On the bright side, come december when most people go on holiday, networks are generally much quieter, so I would cancel at the end dec and prob come back when they provide some timelines.
Yeah, exactly the sentiment I've been increasingly feeling about cancelling.
Been considering upgrading to Business Uncapped, more especially to get guarantee on real time streaming since Home Uncapped has not been reliable with this, but even Business seems to have this issue judging by that thread's comments... Despite what Afrihost insist about real time not being affected by shaping.
Those timeliness for resolution would be REALLY welcome around about now.
I didn't see anything on our side. I did see a very brief spike in latency around 10am, but that went away within about 10mins.
Is it still like this, or back to normal?
I would take those complaints with a pinch of salt. It could be telkom problems as they are wide spread (thank my lucky stars I have a congestion free exchange and a trouble free line that unfortunately is maxed out at 4mb G.dmt although my router tells me I can attain 12mb (Been waiting for ADSL2+ since they announced it - 2009 I think).
Those that are complaining should provide some clear evidence of tracerts and speedtests of AH Business and an alternate ISP to prove that they don't have infrastructure problems.
Luckily I am on the Eastern IPC, and isn't nearly as bad as what you are going through (northern I assume), but if I was you, seeing that you have missed the 25th cut-off, you don't have any other choice other than to change to business until the end of the month, then hopefully go back to what you were using for dec, maybe go back to bus in Jan, and I predict the upgrades will only come through by March, which will be when one starts experiencing normalcy again.
I don't think you mentioned your line speed. I'm sure this will factor in whether you go through the rig-ma-roll of changing accounts.
Personally, I'm just using AH for half of this month to give my stars a break, I've been burned too many times by them to give a damn, and I don't agree with their shaping policy where we all suffer together instead of protecting the network from the abusers, when they don't forecast properly, we end up paying full price for sub service.
When all is said and done, there isn't a complete package for uncapped with all the ISP's, unless you pay for business (real business, not cheapy AH business, although that would be the next best thing), and because I only need my line after work, IS are the way to go because they provide solid reliable service day after day, unlike AH lucky packet shaping and TI on off network and 10210.

Thanks for the suggestions, makes sense. Hopefully Afrihost have news soon on the timing of improvements though... End of March - I believe Telkom year end and not sure if Afrihost aligned with that too - is really far away.
Yep, in Northern region and on a 10mbps line, so the Business upgrade isn't small change relatively. Will consider it though, at least for this next month. Being an Afrihost thread, would you mind PMing me about what you were saying about IS?
I blame their R4 per gig capped deals that have ruined things for normal uncapped.
