Can one sortoff choose the exchange used (an uncongested one) or does it all just depend on where you live

I'm sure it has a lot to do with your location and where you are.

PM TelkomZA as I've been told some peeps have had some success with this route. I wouldn't bother with brainless 10210.

I have a perfect 4mb line and according to 10210 that is as fast as I can go. I'm a bit scared to PM TelkomZA for 10mb coz if it ain't broke don't fix, and who knows what will happen if they start fiddling :)

I must say that my experience with AH capped is unshaped as I can stream YT 720p no problem on my 4mb line.

When you are having issues with your capped, what happens if you try another ISP on a different network? If they are normal then I will just have to chalk it down to location and routing, and from my experience, some ISP's just don't perform well in your location, so you just have to try others until you find one that works for you.

Personally, OW (VC/Altech backbone) and Cybersmart performed waaay below average or not at all (dead). MTN (AH) works fine, but IS's rock solid after hours performance (5pm-8am) suites me just fine (the way AH was before MTN).

Apparently SS is KUK across all ISP's. I think they (SS) are waaaaaaaaaay overdue for an upgrade of some-kind, even though they will never admit this. (monopoly at it's best)

I couldn't even log in yesterday (I hardly ever do, and couldn't remember my password, so when I clicked on "forgot password", I was greeted with a blank page (chrome and IE) - and this has been my issue for a long time now, as when the page does work and I can actually enter my email address, it never comes through, so I don't bother) when I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Thankfully, I have a HD PVR, but it would be nice if I could log in at the office sometimes.

Back in the good old days when I knew my password, sometimes (popular events) you wouldn't be able to log in at all with timeout issues, if you were late to the party :)

Thanks :-) I see I actually live quite close to you (Hillcrest) so maybe I will look into PMing TelkomZA soon...
 
I'm looking for some insight into this shaping. Is it happening with all ISPs across SA?

Don't want to move to find my experience is not any better.
 
OpenWeb feedback thread doesn't look much better. I guess moving will just be a gamble :/

Agreed, but their issues are not the same as AH, as AH don't have enough capacity to satisfy all their customers.

You can still email support with OW for new account details to keep a working internet environment.
 
25% Download/12.5% P2P shaping on a Sunday evening is just ridiculous. I guess its time to try out OW instead of complaining all the time.
 
Says no shaping applied and yet my http downloads are at 20kB/s max...this is really getting out of hand

In reality, shaped to ~25% Monday morning. Urgently need an http 3GB download from UCT servers before 9am. That's why I have a 10mbps line.

Tried to use a turbocharge, to get told "you don't need one because you're not shaped." So I click proceed anyways because the customer always knows best.

10 mins later, it doesn't seem to be working. No surprises there. Downloads still hovering around 50%. Turbocharge me to half, thanks Afrihost.

Can't wait till Friday to be rid of this garbage.

Sorry to hear this. We're quite hit our maximum limit this morning on any of our regions - have you checked what your general throughput is on your line?

Sorry about this. We were able to shape a lot more lightly yesterday, and the network was mostly unshaped from about 11pm.

We can also assist anyone having a poor experience. If we can do one on one troubleshooting, I generally find we can find a viable solution or alternative for you :(

We ran some tests with a client recently on a few ISP accounts, just to check if there is any difference. All buffered during the main even, so I'm pretty sure this is SuperSport issue :(
