Gaming gets highest priority on the network, but if you're playing on a server that uses P2P traffic, then you may be affected by shaping. Can you check whether there is any aspect to the servers you are playing on?

Both Dota 2 and Hearthstone are client-server based games.

Windows updates aren't unshaped on the network, I have the same issue downloading Windows updates.

Also Windows Phone updates fail because it's shaped into the ground.

Shouldn't be the case as far as I know, but maybe Window's update servers aren't as easy to "whitelist" as Apple servers :(

Then there definitely should not be any shaping on them. We'll need to test when you're online to check if we're analysing the traffic correctly and then update our management accordingly.

Please drop me a PM with some more details :(

I can confirm the windows update + windows app store shaping as well. I had to login to my university wifi to get windows 8.1 update.

Here you go:
*.download.windowsupdate.com
*.update.microsoft.com
*.windowsupdate.com
*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
forefrontdl.microsoft.com
download.microsoft.com
download.windowsupdate.com
ntservicepack.microsoft.com
windowsupdate.microsoft.com
wustat.windows.com

Those are for Windows Updates, will have to do some network caps for Windows Phone and the store

If usage is not dying down after midnight as we expect, then we can only unshape accordingly. This should all be much better once our additional capacity arrives :(

Hi AfriMan,

When are you expecting the additional capacity to arrive?

Cheers

Thanks, dude. Let me get the 411 on this for you guys :)

I don't have a timeline just yet - I'm waiting to get confirmation from Telkom via our management team :(

No estimation or even an educated guess? I mean, is it this month, this year, end of next year, 5 years?

I don't want to give you an unconfirmed answer - especially with Telkom being full committed to exchange and line upgrades at the moment. Although they should be separate divisions of Telkom, hopefully this will not impact our order.

For the sake of not creating a false expectation - I'd rather only impart confirmed information and not my personal guesses :(

Please explain why you need confirmation from telkom with this, I thought you used MTN, or is it congestion at the Telkom exchanges?

Ipc is a telkom product

Telkom own the IPC - so they have to upgrade the IPC and this is ordered exclusively through them. We're not allowed to touch the IPC (neither is MTN). If it were something to be ordered through MTN - it would have been delivered before we even asked for it :)

Is anyone else getting low speed in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Only getting 3kbs on a 1mb business line.

Whoops, I wonder which day Ghosts was released :/

Our network is running well in the South at the moment. Is this on a download or your general speed at the moment?

Just general speed, was fine this morning running between 90-120kbs. I cant even get speedtest to open anymore.
Even refreshing this page takes a minute to complete
