Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

This is quite strange, are you seeing these results fairly consistently?

As I told AfriMan, video streaming is bad on my uncapped account compared to my capped. I'm not sure if the tracert is like this all the time, I will run tracerts again tonight.

There shouldn't be a reason as to why streaming is poor on these accounts. Is anything running in the background that could maybe confuse the QoS?

@afriguy, What is the IP address for your news servers? news.afrihost.co.za doesn't connect and I remember using the IP address without much hassle..

Try 81.171.118.141.
Strange that it won't connect using the hostname, what DNS do you have setup on your end?

Yeah, we'll need to see what's happening here. Looks like throughput is the problem because youtube is streaming perfectly for me on capped. Your throughput stats looked pretty dismal on the screenshot. And can you confirm that there are no background services running?

So will anything be done about this? Seems a bit odd though..

Lots of weird things going on here... I was getting 70kbp/s upload just now with 20 down :/

I hoping its not got something to do with line speed upgrades... my friend just down the road got his 10meg upgrade yesterday...

We need more tests to know where to look, to be honest. Generally we're seeing pretty good throughput and performance on streaming and we're not getting the kind of complaints one might expect if this were the general experience at the moment :(

We're seeing excellent latency and throughput in the EAST right now, so our network is definitely not seeing any issues at the moment. We've done very little shaping at all, so contention is also pretty much as low as it can get.

The high latency you're getting on the 2nd hop can only be due to congestion or a physical fault on your line :(

Drop me a PM so we can troubleshoot some more :(

Afriman/Afriguy, I'd appreciate some help.
I have a 2mb home uncapped line, but since 1-Nov, my usenet downloads NEVER increased beyond 7KB/s (3-4%) day or night, while my Shaping Policy is 25% Downloads / 6.5%.
I've asked for support, but keep getting text book answers. I've followed some of this thread over the last week or so and aware of the capacity issues since Sep, but seriously, this shaping does not make sense.

BTW - I'm in Cpt

Just a question from my side, apologies if this is the wrong thread, will we be upgraded in AH when Telkom completes the roll out process?

With that shaping, either you're downloading a ton or the IPC in your area is screwed.

This is in my area, but is only 1 day old though. My problems started on 1-Nov.

Any idea what the impact of this would be? I do get good speed on regular browsing and downloads.
