Thanks Afriman, the switch to 75gig appears to have gone through. Line is absolutely flying. Wish I could get this on uncapped.

Awesome. Once our additional capacity arrives from Telkom, we should see improvement across the board :)

been some weird stuff happening up and down this street :( Tired of mailing you guys and Telkom... my mate down the road has been having weird issues too... it just comes out of no were and we are never effected at the same time :/

My line was fine for a bit just now... managed to get a decent 30ms ping on bf4 for a bit...

Another weird thing.... my line doesnt sync at 2meg ... i know im still on a 1 meg account but surely i could still have my line sync at a faster rate.. (giving me the max up and down speeds available from you guys?)

This looks like intermittent congestion on your line. It seems to jump all over the place on this test, which is very typical of that kind of issue. :(

Ive told telkom that before....

first guy didnt know what that meant... second local tech denied any form of congestion...

Its been like this since the 10meg upgrades started... been on and off the phone to telkom...

Makes sense, if they upgraded access to bandwidth but did not upgrade the backhaul from the exchange :(

Ive logged into my router a few times.. cant seem to find the sync speed :/ im going to guess im syncing at 2 meg though... speedtest sits at 1meg download and doesnt move... I am still on a 1meg uncapped account though...

afrihost client zone reports my snr at 23 and atten at 18

DSLAM results report snr as 29 and atten at 33.5

ill pm telkom

Drop me a PM if you're still battling, or use our line test feature in ClientZone to get your sync stats directly from the exchange.

I think ive got my own Afrihost type of shaping on my Microtik RB750. I will test acounts at work and stream HD, when i get home after 5 I can see on winbox that the RB only allows 320kbps to 512kbps max to anything in xbmc. Anyone have any ideas that maybe knows this RB? Everything else like netflix and youtube is super fast.

That's pretty odd. I don't know the Mikrotik range well, but have you checked on any of their online forums?

Hi All,

I am currently on the 2mb uncapped package and considering a move to 2mb business. This is mostly because I would like to start streaming from Hulu. My good question is would I get good streaming from my current package? Money is tight at the moment and the experiences of other members would be greatly appreciated before I sign up for a new package.

You should always get good realtime performance on any package, so you should generally need to change to business if you're mainly interested in Hulu. However, if you're also torrenting and there is shaping on your line, QoS can sometimes interfere with streaming, so I always recommending leaving non-realtime services for overnight or a time when you're not using your bandwidth for realtime services. It's not that it won't work, it just to ensure that it works best for the best experience.

Just FYI, Musa confirmed that real-time browsing is always unshaped. Not real-time services (like streaming) which will be subjected to shaping as you see fit (I assume over and above the download shaping communicated through clientzone considering the huge amount of buffering I'm getting)

Any real time service is exempt from shaping. That's gaming, browsing, audio and video streaming, terminal services (like SSH), VPN.

Remember that you also have Turbocharge to be unshaped when you want to be :)
