Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P

Hasn't changed in nearly 24 hours. Steam Download says it's going to take 22 days.

Why don't all you guys whingeing about being shaped not get a capped account - up to 40Mb/s (NO shaping). AH are, from today, offering eg. 50GB for only R199. This is a steal! Do this and the posts on this forum will probably be reduced by 50%.

... because I want to download lots. If I didn't want to download lots, I wouldn't get uncapped. I certainly don't think we're 'whingeing' - we're merely pointing out issues and asking for feedback.

Don't you cache downloads in order to prevent this?

Caching servers are in place, however this does still have some affect on the overall network load.
As AfriMan mentioned, the increase in demand has been quite big. We're constantly monitoring our network to make adjustments where possible. We'll keep everyone updated.

HTTP downloads are shaped during high network load times - which is what we're currently experiencing :(
Please be patient, things will return to normal soon!

You can always grab a Business Uncapped or Capped package from us, they're both Unshaped.
If you cancel today it'll take affect at the end of the month :(

@Afri-people, will my NNTP download speeds improve if I change to a capped account? Have only downloaded 34GB this month...

I'm on the 2mbps uncapped bundle from AH.

edit: PMing AfriGuy now.

Our Capped accounts are completely unshaped, so you should see an increase in speeds :)

Guys I'm really sorry that we're letting people down here, our network is seeing high usage. We haven't seen usage like this in a very, very long time. This combined with absolutely minimal downtime and network issues.
Because our network is seeing high loads at the moment shaping is being applied to Home Uncapped accounts and an increase in latency may be experienced. It won't stay like this forever, it'll pass and will go back to being the general awesome that everyone is used to.

Please be patient while we sort this out.

This is making me slightly worried, just applied for my 10mbps uncapped bundle from afrihost yesterday as I am planning on doing quite a bit of downloading and gaming online as well as use the line for work (generally large file transfers as I am a designer)

Please read through my post above yours :(
The high usage curve is slowly but surely dipping down to normal daily usage.

Read it as i pressed send on my previous post.
Not planning on cancelling it, will definately give AH a try for a few months as the general feedback on AH has been great! And I took my time to decide and do research on forums so I am sure it is just temporary.

This issue is most certainly a temporary one.
I'll post more feedback as soon as it's been made available to me :)

I am amazed at how quick people get upset and jump ship. Haha.

You people think a network can never be overloaded? Or bottleneck-ed? Geez. Everyone is all happy and relaxed but as soon as it actually becomes necessary for some network management to be done people want to complain...over a few days!

So the network takes heat for a week and then things return to normal. It's the same on ALL the isps at present folks. All of them are experiencing slow speeds at present.

Well you either sit with this or just pay more and no more issues?
i don't hate them....

Who's to say you know the story behind the "overload".....maybe they are trialing #$@$
Who knows what's going on.....

mweb pulled this a few months ago and I left...no hard feelings...was with them for 4 years...

Thanks for being so understanding, it's much appreciated!
While these things do happen, we try and make sure they don't. As you say though, sometimes the overall load is just too much - which is what's happened here.

We expect the network load to return to normal soon.
