Well you either sit with this or just pay more and no more issues?
i don't hate them....

Who's to say you know the story behind the "overload".....maybe they are trialing #$@$
Who knows what's going on.....

mweb pulled this a few months ago and I left...no hard feelings...was with them for 4 years...

I can promise you, there aren't any "stories" behind anything. We've been transparent from day 1, we tell it how it is. Even when we do drop the ball we're the first to admit it and sort it out from there.

Okay, just a small note from me on all of this, to all the afrihost users who are throwing their toys out of their cot, pop over to the mweb uncapped feedback thread lol... it's a joke!

Afrihost has been good to everyone here as is evident from previous feedback so give them the benefit of the doubt! :)

Guys I'm really sorry that we're letting people down here, our network is seeing high usage. We haven't seen usage like this in a very, very long time. This combined with absolutely minimal downtime and network issues.
Because our network is seeing high loads at the moment shaping is being applied to Home Uncapped accounts and an increase in latency may be experienced. It won't stay like this forever, it'll pass and will go back to being the general awesome that everyone is used to.

Please be patient while we sort this out.
I'm replying to your PM now, but needless to say, I've been experiencing crappy NNTP speeds for 2 months now. We're talking 10KB/s on a 2MB line, with potential improvement after 2am...

I have no problem with the shaping under load, but currently my line has been shaped almost constantly for the last 3 days. I have downloaded a lot this month, but it is less than the previous months. This is the longest my account has been shaped at one time.

From my normal monthly experience it does cause a bit of a problem when being told by everyone that the network is performing normally. This morning was the first indication from Afrihost that there is more load on the network than usual. I think the lack of communication more than anything is getting to people. If these spikes only started happening last night, I would also like to know what was happening before this morning.

There is an increase of latency which may cause some browsing issues, but we're doing our best to work around this.
Thanks for being so understanding!

We haven't had any general network issues before the spike in traffic last night. This dipped down to regular levels at around 11pm and gained a very high usage curve earlier this morning.
If there have been previous issues we'll need to troubleshoot the account for you once the usage has returned to normal. I can assure you if any general issues do crop up we're the first to say that there are. As there hasen't been any, we haven't reported them.

Cool, I'm sure we'll come to a resolution via the PM's :)

You can always grab a Business Uncapped or Capped package from us, they're both Unshaped.
If you cancel today it'll take affect at the end of the month :(

I cannot justify a Business Uncapped if shaping on my Uncapped bundle happens every now and again - which I don't mind. But 2-3 days non-stop is a little extreme.

Before late last night/ this morning there have been no general issues or excessively high load as there is at the moment.
If there are issues under your account we'll need to investigate this once our network usage has normalised.

@Afriguy: Any chance Afrihost could put a graph showing current network load, that way we can get an idea of why we are being shaped and then we can see when the network load is returning to normal.

We don't have a graph for public viewing at the moment, we'll let you know once the traffic usage normalises though :)

We appreciate the constant updates, but it would be cool to have a graph. Plus its a good way for you to boast on how much traffic your network is handling.

I blame Apple for this. All the iSheep trying to update all their iOS devices at the same time.

Remember when iOS 6 launched, same issue.

Agreed, it would be ideal - but we don't have any immediate plans for this just yet :)

Hehe, yeah along with the iOS7 update there are also quite a few apps that require updates once the actual OS has installed - requesting a lot of traffic. I was one of those people who updated my iPad last night... so I'm sorry ;)

:whip:

So you're the one making us get shaped

:D
Nah, this shaping system works awesome. Downloads are slow (well not my IOS7 update), but browsing is nice and fast.
