Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

WOW if you have come over from the MWEB whinging corner on MyBB you may feel real depressed with the recent AUP Email going out to abusers. Enough to make Ronald Mac depressed.

So what is Afrihost offering (smoking) for someone who enjoys using the entirety of the service?

I have just about had enough with my MWEB premium uncapped 4mb line. :wtf:

Go away abuser, we don't want your kind here :D

We have recently seen some other ISPs adopt a different approach to heavy users, and it's definitely not our place to say who should do what and how. For us, we feel that the internet is community, especially on Uncapped products. We feel that there is generally enough bandwidth for everyone on our network. To use a crude analogy, while there is occasionally that guy who drives his massive Hummer across two lanes on the highway, it shouldn't mean that the rest of us should never drive or have a bad experience every time we do.

So called "abusers" are a small percentage of the people on the web, and we believe that in general most people are considerate and generally awesome! We don't want to change how we do things to compensate for abusers, or end up treating our awesome clients like abusers :)

Is anyone on Afrihost VDSL? I'd like to know how you find it and if your speeds stay constant. I want to move to Afrihost, but afraid I'll have slow speeds - why is their price half of that of the other ISPs?

I am. It's been pretty good so far, had some speed issues last night but wasn't major and only lasted a few hours, most of the time speeds have been very good to excellent.

However... I have not used very much data on the account and still shows that I'm not being shaped in the clientzone. My usage is only on 66GB so far.

Which ISP you with now? I know OpenWeb are also releasing their VDSL packages very shortly, pricing is comparable to Afrihosts.

We use the same construction as our normal accounts, so there is no hidden shaping or catches for the VDSL traffic as opposed to other ADSL products. What I have seen is that VDSL speeds fluctuate a lot due to congestion on VDSL exchanges, and also due to issues managing this new tech, so some have said they are disappointed. But I think it depends on who you talk to :)

I can't offer a trial account, but I can offer a signup discount for your first month with us. Just drop me a PM :)

I just cancelled my openweb account, wanted to move to fnb uncapped but that was a bad idea (cant use unotelly.)

Thank afriman, I'll get a router and get in touch. Btw, I take it the move to mtn issues are resolved now?

Noticing a trend here afrihost and axxess :P

Going through the forums it looks like big k*k going down at Mweb. So you guys will probably be getting quite the influx of new users (well after next month as with Mweb you need a month cancellation notice). My point is - Please ensure you guys have enough capacity to keep my Afrihost experience silky smooth ;) :)

I believe the Uncapped accounts were restricted in some ways, good to know for the future :)

Yeah, we haven't had any issues for some time now. No network is 100% perfect 100% of the time, but we're definitely seeing a huge improvement all the time. Compared to or previous experience, the MTN network is definitely performing very well :)

We'll definitely be looking closely at new signups and growth to ensure we have enough capacity. That's a big priority for us.

Anyone else finding International Bandwidth really 'ugh' lately (last +- 8 days)? I'm talking about browsing the Steam Store (store.steampowered.com), international websites (i.e. liverpoolfc.tv) - only really pull down around 50kb/s when loading International Sites. However, load up MyBroadband or News24 and I get full line speed (110kb/s).
