Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

It's not the same as Uncapped.Capped account will always be faster not matter what you do

No necessarily faster, depending on your line speed. If your line matches the rate limit speed (e.g. 4Mbps), the main difference between capped and uncapped is that Uncapped has QoS applied to give the best overall experience. So we prioritise real time services on your traffic, whereas capped has none applied. You might get a slightly different experience if you are running multiple services like Torrents and Streaming at the same time. If you're running a single service, you should have a very similar experience if there is no shaping applied on your account.

Sorry didn't read all of your previous posts, but did you try these tests on an Afri 1GB free or other ISP's package as well? (Axxess has a 3gig free trial).

Had the same kind of issue across multiple ISPs a while back, especially with BF3 and SWTOR (strangely, US and EU Linux mirrors worked at full speed).

Only way I finally managed to get it fixes was by Telscum switching out my line to a different port on the DSLAM.. might be worth giving it a shot if you haven't yet and all else fails.

Regards

Thanks for the feedback. We also have had experiences like this where international speeds are way below local, and it ended up being something related to the Telkom line or DSLAM port. I'm not sure on a technical level why this is, but it usually ends up being this. It's especially strange when generally we don't see this across the network, but a handful of clients seem to experience these symptoms.

Remember that most of what people use on the net is overseas based, though some may be cached locally. If international service was truly problematic, we'd have a huge volume of complaints and queries.

Got a strange one here. My adsl keeps on going down on me.
Looks like my line is fine.
This is what the modem shows in its log

We'd have to check your session and authentication logs to see what might be happening on our side. If our logs show the disconnection, it will also give us an error description that will help.

Great, thanks.
This happened with both my free 1gb and my uncapped account. It was happening for most of the evening, in 5 minute intervals.
What information do you need from me, then I'll PM you?

For now just your ADSL username so I can pull the session logs and check for multiple disconnections, etc.

@AfriMan

Will the static IP's be available to non business users like with Axxess?

Our office 50GB capped account is painfully slow today. Using it at home to download things I need at 20Mbit, but only getting 300KB/sec. Switching to FNB account and everything is flying at 2MB/sec. Can I send you a PM to check this out Afriman or is there a general problem somewhere? I'm in Cape Town.

Tracert Dr.?

I'm in Durbanville (also a known problem area) and my 2mb line is running great. All happiness this side.

Thanks. Entered. It would be great if I was chosen, because otherwise I'll have to take out another Cell C Giga200 in the near future.

Don't sign any papers yet. We'll be launching the official product to the public very soon :)

Please definitely PM me about this. Very odd for a capped account to be under performing so we need to look into this ASAP :(
