Uhm...shaping is not dependant on usage? Clearly stated in the AUP. Irrespective of how much you've pulled shaping will be applied when the network is under strain.

Also being shaped. First time in weeks. So what. Sure they are working on fixing whatever could be the problem.

Not doubting your truthfulness, but something *has* changed for CPT. It's been quite slow for the last couple of days. I tend to visit this thread when something is not quite right, and lo and behold, more people are complaining about similar things for CPT.

I also only visited because of the slowdown and sudden evening shaping in CPT starting a few days ago. Currently shaped again - Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P.

Then they should say there are issues instead of claiming everything to be working fine, referring to the AH site.
I've been using my product the same way I've always been, downloading the same sort of content, never been shaped.

yip 90% of my downloads occur between 11pm and 7am. I try to download only during quiet times on the network.

I find the "quiet time" for residential uncapped ADSL tends to be during weekdays 7am to 4pm. That's when all my downloads fly.

Okay... Normally I would agree with the thoughts of Orihalcon

But seriously - on a 10meg line?

image.jpg

@Afriman - I know you are working on it, but something must have happened? Maybe its just the entire of South Africa downloading ios7 @900mb a turn.

Also - Anyone staying in Somerset West with a 10meg line? I have been unable to sync at more than 8mbps for the past week? Anyone else experiencing this...? Usually im syncing perfectly at 10mbps.

It's difficult to say with certainty that there will be no effect. Remember that if you're torrents are squeezing as much bandwidth out of upload and download capacity, it's going to affect real time services, whether you are shaped or not. We can say with confidence that no matter what you're shaping is, you'll be able to always use real time services at full speeds, but if you are running several services in contention with each other on your line, we just can't replicate every scenario.

Sure, if you're NOT shaped and torrents are using your full line capacity then obviously everything else will have to contend with that. But if p2p is shaped to 20kbps, surely that's not going to affect real time speeds much?

It could very well be that a lot of people are just using the net. That would be my first guess. Thagt everyone over the whole.country is being shaped at once like this...that does give me pause

As for your line sync...have you.run a line repair or line stabilize test? I THINK that can potentially lower your sync to automatically improve it. If not, easy fix is phoning telkom and asking to be resynced. I know it sounds like a total schlep...but the process takes 7min tops. They can also tell you if your line is having noise issues...quite possible.

As for me and my slow as hell speeds I know it's my dslam being limited.

I'll throw somw things in the cue and check logs tomorrow to see if speeds increased during the am.

Already had telkom on the phone and they even sent out a technician to test the line. Of course, they 'fixed' the problem. (They didnt if you were wondering).

The line tests and repairs fail. No noise on the line according to a test from Afriman - so I just want to see whether its just me or not.

*sigh*

Steam downloads going at 20kb/s all day and now as well. Not happy :(

1 Meg.

Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P

Think it's safe to assume that something is most definitely up. Everyone from all over the country is having speed issues to some extent.

Will be looking forward to answers tomorrow from the Afri-team.

I'm in Pta and since yesterday I've been shaped like hell. Downloads between 9am and 12pm are 500kbps max and after 12 it's up to 800kbps, after 18:00 it's back to 4mb line speed. I seldom use torrents but places like uploaded.net etc.

Shaping Policy: 18.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P. And this has been active 24/7 for the last 3 days. Even Turbo Boosting has no effect on the line.

I've only had shaping (this month) on Tuesday from 5pm-8pm and yesterday from 3pm to 9pm. Other than that it's been hunky dory, and my usage has been low to moderate. Right now it's not shaped.

My 2mb uncapped was unusable last night. 12% shaping applied. Had to use my MiFi to browse.
I'm not gonna go through this with Afrihost again the last time this took forever to sort out. They are not even acknowledging the issue yet.

Cancelling today and moving somewhere else until this is resolved and stable for a while.

would be a joke if it was the ios 7 updates...

And my downloads went full tilt at around 23:00 according to my Bitmeter logs. Averaging 412kB/s per hour for 4 hours till cue was empty.

Can say that even though my dl's were shaped last night I could still browse and use youtube HD.
