I see that you aren't shaped too badly - which is always a good thing
Mine has been constantly on 18.8%/6.25% for a few days now
on a 4mb uncapped account and have consumed 692.34MB of data since the month began.
Please HELP, my 20Gig capped account is being consumed very quickly with a line syncing at 8MB

I just applied a turbocharge which made the biggest difference ever.
I'm really finding it difficult as a 10meg user to manage with being constantly shaped. I am completely aware and understanding of the circumstances that are present that induce this shaping, but it's really unbearable. We cannot afford to upgrade to business, and although it is a good option, I would prefer to stay on uncapped rather than going to capped as I enjoy the flexibility.
I really hope this gets sorted out soon, but I think I might have to go with capped if it doesn't improve...

I've mentioned before that it's not just on totals, and it sounds like everyone is posting this month's total (3 days into the month). We analyse your usage patterns, how much data is moved over time, to calculate which policies should be implemented to the greatest effect.
The shaping is controlled by a system, based on rules. It really can't behave in a different or illogical manner, unless there are other variable - which is why usage patterns are very important (not necessarily usage).
Fully understand where you're coming from, and we know it's more than frustrating
I'm sure we are set to see shaping reduce soon. We are seeing a few clients report that shaping seems to have eased up a bit today so let's hope that this trend continues!
Thanks for being understand, and I know it can't be easy going from the experience just a week or two ago to the current situation. We really hope to have some solutions in place as soon as possible, so hopefully no drastic changes will be required. Either way, we'll find a way for your to get the performance you need

July - 182 GB (steam sale was rough AND discovered Netflix)
August - 112 GB
September - 90GB
So yeah, make of that and my shaping policy what you will.

PS. Usage is also direct Dls and Netflix, very little torrents (dont know if that has ANY effect)

While your usage may be less, our network load has been higher which in turn, creates the need for more shaping. While it isn't ideal at all it has to happen
What is your current shaping percentage sitting at, at the moment?

June 9Gb
July 9Gb
August 16 Gb
Sept 30Gb
Still think I am a heavy user and deserve to be shaped? Or at least shaped as heavily as I am? Currently 25% btw
The stupid / sad thing is left alone with no shaping I probably wouldn't do much more than 50 or 60 Gb in a month - only got a 1 Mbs line after all and I don't intend to be downloading all day long but I do want to be able to grab a file when I want it. Before I went uncapped I considered each download of any size in terms of how much bandwidth I had left. I went uncapped to get away from that but now each download has to be weighed up on the basis of how long it will take and will it finish before I need to do something else.

@ Afriman: Perhaps all of the MYBB members who are on Afrihost uncapped could have less shaping than the rest...after all, most of us we have been loyal to you for years and it would give you guys good PR because of our influence. Just a suggestion.

Sorry, decided to add to the post while you were replying. If you look at the edited post you will see my reasons for changing. I would have downloaded a bit more in the past but top-ups were getting to be expensive.
Ah. You can always upgrade to an uncapped account during the month (if the uncapped is more expensive than the capped account afaik) and then downgrade back, which will give you uncapped for the remainder of the month (please correct me if I'm wrong, Afriman/Guy)
On 1Mb, you need to download 51GB on uncapped for it to be worthwhile above a capped account.
As we mentioned before, the shaping is not based on totals but rather usage patterns.
This exact shaping policy has been in use during all of the months you've posted your totals for - it's been more active due to the higher network load.
As much as we'd love to, the logistics behind this won't make it possible
Ideal situation - we see better usage trends and shape less. This is something that we're working towards though.

Is there anything we can do to improve our stats - without causing strain? I mean, it seems scheduling my downloads between midnight and 7AM does not seem to make any difference - at least not to me.
