Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

rubber banding in games and website timeouts last night from 8 to 10pm, while pings to 8.8.8.8 is still normal below 200ms. Everything runs fine on a capped AH account. If I decide to go for a lower speed business uncapped account that costs the same, how long does the cutover take, and is there any pro rata billing benefits?

Oh joy Heavy shaping's back, I'll now be shaped for the next 13 and a half hours ( Talking from 3 months experience) despite download only 23.5 gigs this month

If you're seeing latency/ speed variations this is something that we'd need to investigate on it's own - as shaping does not have an affect here.
Please PM me your info and we'll run some tests on our end.

Being shaped into the ground today. Much earlier than yesterday. For those who were wondering.

Edit - This is on 2Mbps Home Uncapped.

Shaping doesn't look at the amount of data used, but rather your usage patterns and the overall network load. I'm sure that shaping will ease again tonight.

thanks, will send the info, I just want the realtime and browsing experiences to not be frustrating after hours.
I don't mind going over to a business account for a month or so until the average AH issues are ironed out, as well as the MTN DDOS strain and repercussions of the Hetzner move...

I don't think it will because I have never had a day that I was shaped and shaping went away before midnight. Never
When I'm shaped I'm always shaped from around 8.30am to 12.30AM. That's how it's been for the last couple of months and that's how I am sure it's going to stay. Not trying to be pessimistic but that's how it's always been.

Again, this is something I'd like to investigate as a separate issue. There may be an underlying fault here that needs fixing either on our end or on an Exchange/ line end.
Shaping never touches realtime services.

Please PM me.

Shaping is dependant on your usage patterns and overall network load. Last night, as an example, shaping lifted almost entirely a little before midnight.

Hi guys

We're seeing a higher spike in demand this morning, causing latency to spike sometimes. Our team is investigating this, should be resolved really soon :(

It seems that the only time I'm not shaped is when I'm sleeping or weekends, and lately weekends are also shaped. And shaping should be lifting at around 6 like other ISP's not before midnight.

We cannot simply lift shaping at a certain time, the same goes for implementing shaping :( It's all based on demand, as we've said previously.

What's even more :( is that I actually considered doling out praise for yesterday, for what was still a much poorer delivery of service than at any point in the preceding year or so.

Yesterday was much better, I fully agree with you here - and it is set to improve.
For the issues now, we'll need to fix the higher latency and demand before we can see improved results.

it might be time for some more IPC, everyone is moving over to Afrihost it seems :)

The spike in latency was caused to a small glitch on our network, more shaping has been implemented until the latency returns to normal.
