Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Just upgraded to 6mbps biz uncapped because I was pretty much not able to do anything on 4mb home - barely any improvement!

Speedtest around 3.4mb down - switch to Webafrica unshaped and I get full 6mbps.

For 700 bucks this is a major disappointment, certainly my last month with afrihost.

Can't watch YouTube. 2mbps uncapped line, and where I could, in July, almost watch hd content on my nexus 7, I get 10second buffering every two seconds... On SD!! Sorry, this is not working.

Sorry that you're getting poor throughput. That should not be the case on Uncapped or Business for real time tests.

Can you PM me so I can see your tests?

Latency is comparable to current AH, however pigeon loss ratio is acceptable and continuous throughput is quite acceptable once the 'line' is going :)

When they shed feathers, is that considered packet loss? How do you throttle a pigeon?

(no animals were harmed in the making of this post)

20:30 and still on 18.8%/6.25% been like that for days on end now

We're seeing a lot more unshaping this evening already compared to the day, so you should be experiencing less shaping, depending on your usage pattern analysis by the system.

I'll check for you is you've been consistently shaped :( Just PM me

YouTube seems to be running perfectly for me, got a torrent running at 100kbps at same time.

Throttling a pigeon constitutes abuse :erm:

Still @ Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

At least I've done 126GB so far this month....

My shaping is zero...but I'll be damned if I can get more than 150kB on a 4mb.

Happens everyday...like clockwork. 17:30 comes and speeds get cut and quartered till around 00:00...sometimes 01:00 then they go full again to 430kB.

Now I figure this is purely due to exchange and infrastructure issues...but the same timings day in and day out :what: hmm.

Will keep on collecting data.

Okay, every time I state YouTube is slow, is when I'm on a mobile device. Is there a possibility that YouTube traffic to mobile devices / apps can be shaped? I use the stock YouTube android app, but it's basically unusable. YouTube works as expected on PC.

It's really possible. In fact regular to the minute issues are more likely to be due to other technical failure than network issues. It could be something like a time based error on your router, or as arbitrary as a neighbour's electric fence being turned on at a certain time.

Give me more credit than that please. :) I always start my troubleshooting my tech and hardware first and have tested on multiple modem router combos from various brands to rule out mechanical issue. And no electric fencing around here to influence the line.

I've also tested during these times with other isps. Same speeds. Lots my friends around the country report the same thing on afri uncapped btw. But I cannot speak to their setups. I am leaning toward the local and ct infrastricture just being inadequite to handle peak time traffic from Durbanville.

Why didn't you say Durbanville?! Lots of backhaul complaints from Durbanville for at least a year now :(

BTW, no offence intended. But we see some whoppers on our side. Had a guy whose router disconnected him everyday at the same time, so weird by product of a power surge. Router just died for a few minutes every day at exactly the same time. Changed routers - 100% normal again :)
