Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

This. My 10mb account is definitely not at full capacity. Browsing takes forever. Pings timeout. Small downloads like on my phone just hang. Yesterday I had no internet. Everything was connected, downloads ran at 12kB/s, so that worked. Skype and other im clients worked but no pages were loading. I dont mind being shaped durimg busy hours, but far past 2 am I still couldnt get anything downloaded or load any pages.

That sounds like issues similar to what we've experienced this morning in KZN and are currently seeing on some Gauteng users. What area are you in?

Sorry, been caught up here. We're getting some mixed reports of authentication problems but it doesn't appear to be a general outage in the area (though there was an issue in KZN this morning).

We're still investigating the problem on our side but it seems like the team should be close to a solution.

Authentication, as in shouldn't be able to connect to our account? I am connected, but the speeds are terrible. It is absolutely terrible. These pages take ages. And I stress, on business uncapped. It's been about two hours now.

Authentication as in you authenticate properly but we're not seeing normal throughput as we expect on our traffic monitoring. What we suspect is that issues in KZN and Gauteng could be linked, but we're still investigating :(

Just an update, we're seeing very poor throughput on the Northern IPC, so we're working to figure out where the issue is. East (KZN) is returning to normal, so there could be a link or it could be a coincidence. Our team are working to restore normal performance on the network, and then we should get more information on what may have caused this issue.

Please bear with us a little longer guys. With the Mobile Network outage this morning, this is taking us a while to get resolved, but I'm confident this will not be much longer :(

Thanks for this post. Capacity is expensive and is the biggest factor in pricing. Even having "unlit' capacity is extremely expensive. At the end of the day, those costs would have to be passed onto clients to make it viable.

We do track usage very carefully and our management are always making sure that our network performance is maintained at a certain level in terms of available capacity and the amount of traffic we see from clients. Ordering additional capacity is a long term process, and there is no quick fix to get Telkom to throw in more IPC. Also, we have to carefully do our calculations on the ongoing costs of having additional capacity. It takes time, is my point here.

I guess I understand why people are frustrated and feel the need to complain, and it is their right. But I'm glad the some also understand that we are doing everything possible to deliver a good experience under the circumstances and our intentions are really to put our clients first :(

This is fair I would just like some help as to why my line speed fluctuates from a very acceptable 8.5 all the way down to under 1 mbps... last night it did not peak over 4 mbps... what is the point in having the 10 mbps bundle then...

Also the only "help" I have been getting from afrihost is you guys reseting my line / port and stabalising it... never mind trying to actually find the real problem. One guy had an idea to sync me at 8mbps (which im not 100% happy with as i am paying for 10 and not 8) but you know what, it solved NOTHING :(

Please guys, I understand the shaping and all that but I just need someone to help with my line.

Seeing some proper improvements. Keep it up.

EDIT : Double post, as it's not perfect yet. Damn.

As far as I know we're not experiencing any issues in the Cape at the moment. Even shaping has been mostly fine in that area. Please PM me, sounds like there is something else going on here :(

Dude no, I am having the exact same issues... downloads last night hitting a nice 30kbps if i was lucky on my 10 meg line.
Trace routes would end up in high 300's up to 700's or a complete time out!

Line speed all over the place.

Not stable at all...

I have been saying this for over a week.

We definitely want to help you. At the moment it would be difficult to do much troubleshooting while there is a network outage or issue in progress. There would be no way to determine if the result is due to your line or the network.

Just bear with us a little longer. Drop me a me PM once this is all over and I'll make sure you get a call from someone senior to work through these issues.

Our trouble also started about a week ago.

Will definitely do that as the people I have spoken to have unfortunately not been able to help me yet.

Thanks so far though for you patients with my bi**ing and moaning.

At least that is stable on your side! Mine is all over the place, regularly dipping below 2 mb... sometimes even under 1...

We are lucky in having tge exchange right next to our flat. So our line stats are awesome. My biggest problem is with streaming. I watch nfl. So I got a 10mb line to stream the nfl games. Its from sunday evenings at 7pm till the next morning. I am lucky if I can get to stream at 800kB/s. I mean past 10 on a sunday night should not be a busy time. I just want to watch some football on near perfect hd resolution.
