Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P :) but then again I deserve it as I managed to get through almost 22Gb today. Oops that is more as I did the whole of last month and I had the same shaping applied on several occasions. I must have been a real bad boy last month

Why don't you guys just define your service and say for example someone on a 4MB line can do 400gig a month and someone with a 1MB line can do 100gig a month etc etc and start kicking off the people that sit and download newsgroups and torrents all day and make life more bearable for the rest of us that doesn't actually abuse the service.

We don't believe that allocating shaping after x amount of usage really works for our Uncapped. It also won't really be Uncapped anymore then :)
To add to this, shaping per client usage will also not allow us to keep realtime unshaped.

Mweb sounds like the right ISP for you :p

Bon Voyage :D

Second straight night im at Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P on a 1 meg line. Started of so great with Afrihost . Now the past few days its such bad shaping im getting. I thought the Eastern cape didn't have a problem :(

Shaping was run until a bit later last night :( Our team have checked this out, we're hoping it'll be better tonight.
We're also pushing more capacity live which should alleviate a fair amount of the shaping.

Keep it this way because Afrihost is about as close to uncapped as you're going to get. Other ISP's uncapped service is more like Softcap.

I know AfriGuy answered this - but I thought I'd elobarate little :)

We've been down this road and implemented throttles and shaping based on usage - but it never really left a great taste behind. The idea that someone paying full price is throttled down to nothing speeds is not how uncapped should be. We believe that everyone should always have reasonable usable internet - that for us is realtime priority services. If you can't torrent a 'distro' or three before the end of the day, I don't think we'll have to many unhappy people. But if you can't browse, can't stream or do important stuff like SSH for work - and what's more work out complex algorithms with rolling windows and total to find out when you'll have internet again - we think it's pretty uncool. We tried it and we never really liked it. We think what we offer now is much more in line with how overseas ISPs run uncapped services and how we've always felt the spirit of Uncapped should be. :)

Remember we didn't hit our limits, just needed shaping in place so we didn't have the network freak out :)
Thanks for being so understand though, it's much appreciated!

I have to call BS on this. You do hit your limmits every day because even unshaped accounts experience cr@p throughput.

Latency is the first thing to suffer, should our IPC reach the ceiling. Throughput is something we'll need to investigate on an account by account basis :(

So you are hitting the "ceiling" . Time to raise the ceiling higher or say goodbye to customers...

We aren't though, that's why we've had to implemented shaping - to ensure our network runs as smoothly as possible.
New capacity is already on it's way - we just don't have an ETA on this yet.
