Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Afri-people:
I have been speaking mostly with Afriman on this issue, but from what I see it is exactly what Orihalcon describes.

I did receive a call from one of your techies, and have emailed him a bunch of tests to assist.

If we've got some data to work off on your account we should be making progress :)

Afrihost: your 'managed' adsl line rentals are a disgrace, its more expensive than telkom and your definition of managed is to log a fault with Telkom and then wash your hands of any further responsibility. Please put someone in charge of line rental that is prepared to add some value to the product because at the moment it makes far more sense to just keep your line with Telkom.

I'm sorry that we've let you down. We definitely don't just log a fault and forget about it, we do our absolute best to pressure Telkom on both feedback and a resolution. In some cases though, our hands do become tied in terms of infrastructure, progress and sometimes the time it takes to dispatch a tech, it's a bit out of our control :(

Around pricing, AfriMan covered this quite nicely earlier on:

Just to add to this - we also have to work within the framework of Telkom's system. If we bump you up to 2Mbps it will be the equivalent of Faster DSL (not Fastest) so you'll actually be bumped up to 4mbps and pay more now and then less later.

It's makes more sense to let Telkom do their thing. Once Telkom cut over to new prices though, we can only process upgrades to the new products DSL1/2/3, etc. So we won't be able to move you becuase in Telkom's eye's you already be on DSL1 - even though that's actually a 2Mbps product and you're currently on 1Mbps.

Unfortunately - with all the confusion, it's a safer bet to wait until Telkom sorts your line out as they get to your area.

Hi, I have been shaped on my uncapped 10Mb account for I think is more than a month now, it was never this bad. Everytime I get home I log onto clientzone and from afternoon till past midnight it says 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P.

Streaming and things like that work OK, but trying to download Windows updates or Display drivers takes forever! im in Kempton Park. I am struggling to even reach 100gb this month, my average per month is about 213gb. I dont leave my internet downloading the whole day, but when im home I expect it to perform at least half of what it should.

Is this issue due to the load on the network? It's really annoying, im not getting the 10Mbps experience that I pay for...

Sorry to hear this, we have seen more shaping than usual on our North IPC region. Affecting shaping in JHB :(
Shaping is starting to ease earlier at night though, this is due to our provisional capacity that has been allocated - more is on the way :)

AfriGuy - are you any closer to figuring out the issues that myself and some other forumites have been having? Sorry to plunder you with questions, i'm just really looking forward to getting this sorted out.

Not that I'm aware I'm afraid :(
I know that our our team are checking every aspect on our side - confident we'll get to the bottom of this ASAP.

No shaping on my line. I've tweaked the line in ClientZone.

Just had a HUGE improvement on my ... status ... can't even complete my speed test now:mad:

Ok, now I am as confused as hell, experience extremely low speeds on 4Mbps uncapped, asked for a 1mb Business account, start testing tonight .... as this what I'm getting!!
Last Result:
Download Speed: 5694 kbps (711.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 688 kbps (86 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 22 ms
21 November 2013 20:06:28

Just before this test my 4Mbps uncapped account was running on download speeds of 1.94kbps? :wtf:

Really annoyed.

This is an excellent example of what I've been experiencing for 2 days. This is a speedtest to the AH server in CT. At some point it stops... completely. Then it resumes. Same with streaming.

Are you very sure that you didn't select 10? Also, there have been issues with home uncapped and speeds not getting above 200kbpsish. Afriguys are sort busy finding the issue.

Sure, Here is part of the mail I got back "Your 1GB Capped DSL Data Login Details

You will need to use the details below to connect to the Afrihost DSL Network. If you do not enter these details on either your computer or DSL modem (depending on how you connect) - you will not be connected to our DSL Network"

If this is what the difference is I am SOLD

Any idea why I get such a strange routing to www.eskom.co.za?

But that's a capped account? Not business uncapped

Err, capped accounts aren't speed limited? That email you quoted mentions 1GB capped, not 1mbps uncapped?

Okay so its 11:40Pm. No shaping applied as per clientzone - Twitch only thing running internet wise:

Twitch2111.jpg

Sigh... Hope you guys figure this out soon cause its getting out of hand tbh xD

Update:

Pretty much hit 12am and it improves:
