Shaping policy for 70GB "projected" monthly usage.

AfriPeople. Why am I back on this shaping? Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P My usage last month was under 38GB on a 10MB uncapped account. My usage for this month is "Data Used: 24.87 GB Average Daily Usage: 2.26 GB Projected Monthly Usage: 70.09 GB" And that was only because I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and installed XCOM Enemy Unknown via Steam. My real daily average is under 1GB. This is not what I signed up for or was promised. If 70GB is excessive then say so. I want what I was promised, sold and am faithfully paying for every month.

You're not shaped depending on usage. This shows strain on the network atm.

Hey Brenton

Sorry to hear this :( We are shaping a bit in the north and south, however we are noticing the shaping ease up much better after hours.
We don't shape based on your individual usage but rather out overall network load at any given time. What area are you in?

With that kind of usage, you'd be better off with a capped product IMO.

10mb uncapped account = R797

100gb Capped = R399
150gb Capped = R599
200gb Capped = R799

Do you think shaping could be in effect when using Netflix via proxy? (Hola) Or would it be the same?

Yes it will, I think? It will definitely slow down the connection, as there is another connection in the process

I know you have tried and I thank you for all your help and patients in this situation as I know I can be one hell of a difficult client at times.

The problem is just a lack of communication / updates / feedback and ultimately the failure to come up with a solution.

The thing is that if someone at Afrihost took my complaints serious the FIRST time I made a mention of it and if the problem was then attended to properly (be it logging the fault with telkom and then pushing them to actually fix it or whatever that solution might be), then I would not sit in the situation I am in now. With internet I can't use for gaming because of the lagging and today for the first time no internet at all... This all before Telkom is going to close, in other words NO hope of it being fixed. In OTHER words a WASTE of my money and my time and energy in trying to get someone to sort it out.

I am sorry for being so difficult and promise that I can be as happy as I am difficult lol... Just give me that chance to be happy please? Sort my problem out.

Sent you the PM btw.
I can see this has been a frustrating experience for you, and I think we have tried on our side to resolve this for you. The issue seems be clearly with your line and we're limited by Telkom in what we are able to do without their intervention.

I think the suggestion of moving to Telkom is not so much a rebuff, as a suggestion to get the quickest result that will work for you. At the end of the day our priority is to get you the result you want as quickly as possible - if it is indeed possible. I don't think there was any malice intended.

I think you should drop me a PM so we can discuss a way forward for you. Will appreciate if you do so.

Oh, real time services are shoddy as well, I can forget about youtube for instance, 360p buffers like crazy on my 10mb line.

This only started today, had no shaping at all for nearly 2 months day or night. So will have to see what its like afterhours today

What area are you in?
Remember that shaping is done completely dynamically according to how busy our network is. Shaping can be expecting during peak hours.

dbn, but yea since this posting started its back to normal speeds all of a sudden

@AfriMan; AfriGuy

I'm leaving AH because service deliver at AH does not exist.
I bought a 4Mbps Uncaped account which i can only browse with. Downloads are pathetic.
Given a 1GB capped account and it works better.
Now I was given a choice were money is involved again. You can buy another package at a cost.
If they would look at the usage graph they will see I hardly used it.
They would net even move my Uncaped to a Caped account.
Plus they give you instruction how to cancel your account.
Then they use MWeb's slogan when you leave. Also asking what can be done to stay.

I'm sorry to hear that you are leaving us. We've had a few PM conversations around this but it sounds like you were also dealing with our support team at the same time - so I'm not sure where that interaction seems have gone awry :(

You haven't left much room here for me to try to intercede, but if you are still open to chatting, please PM me - I would really appreciate it either way :)

It looks like we're having a problem on our Cape (South) IPC. We're getting mixed reports of no or very slow connectivity - we're still investigating with MTN to isolate the problem. Any regions routing through the South could be affected at the moment.

Will update more info as I get it :(

Anyone having issues in CT? My connection was dead when I first logged on this morning. Worked again a couple minutes later but the speeds across the board are very slow. Off to work now, hopefully it'll be better tonight.

thanx afriman , try to fix that CPT IPC asap my clients are moaning :P

Know the feeling - got a few upset people as well :(

We're definitely doing everything we can. Ultimately IPC is Telkom's hardware so most of the time we have to reply on them (we're not allowed to touch the IPC even though it's housed at our DC)
