Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Well shaping never affected my Netflix before (didn't have shaping active when I used Netflix in the past month), but I did notice that Netflix isn't using all available bandwidth on the line. Which means that HD only rarely happens, and SuperHD never happens (on a 10mbps line). Have eliminated the problem being on my end, as I tested when exchange congestion restabilised (2am etc) and traceroutes looked normal.

Will conduct further tests and send the results to Kyle, but just a heads-up: something is amiss.

Let's see if we can resolve this when we add additional capacity, becuase it's pretty hard to test for otherwise. We should have this live pretty soon in the North, so I'll let you guys know when this happens :)

Noooo, us Southerners are the mountain state, man!
Just kidding, the North needs it alot more than we do :P

(This is beginning to sound like a Game of Thrones episode)

Afriman, it seems that my usage hasn't been logged correctly. I have no usage logged from the 24th to the 27th of this month. On the 23rd I have usage of 44.39GB (on a 2meg line!). Clearly my usage over those few days is being logged under the 23rd.

This is strange indeed! Could you drop me a PM with your account info so I can take a closer look into this for you?

I can see you're upset about this and I totally understand.

But as I mentioned, you are mentioning several people, which is less than a percent of our full client base on DSL. We have many reports from clients and staff that Netflix is working well for them. So we have to investigate and troubleshoot the reports becuase if it works for several hundred or thousand clients, it simply cannot be an issue on the network.

Maybe on the more expensive unshaped business accounts, because the people who mentioned netflix is running fine also recommended the business account instead of the home account

Afriman/guy I contacted Afrihost in hopes of getting a test account - sounds like that's not a done thing with you guys. What's the cancellation policy if I switch over and am not happy with the service?

Hi Afriman.

I am currently on a 1mb/s uncapped account with afrihost for R197/pm and have been reasonably happy with the service.
Telkom has increased my line speed to 2MB/s. I see that currently the afrihost 2mb/s uncapped package costs R297pm.
Many ISPs have reduced their 2mb/s uncapped offering in the region of R200pm.
Are there any plans for Afrihost to do the same. I am now finding considerably better value with other ISPs.
I am hoping that Afrihost will be dropping there prices.
Can you advise further.

I think they mentioned they'll be reviewing prices next month.

As far as I know people have reported similarly on both, but there could be more people on business using netflix. I don't have any stats in this regard :(

You can cancel anytime before the 25th of the month, so that will only be possible next month as we;re already in the billing run. Cancellation would scheduled for the last day of the month.

Maybe go for a Free GB for now, to try out our network :)

We are most likely not going to offer 2Mbps upgrades autmatically, but we are planning to review our products and prices once the upgrades are completed in Mid-Feb. Hopefully getting a reduction in IPC will also help us in that as well.

I really can't make any commitments at this stage though, anything could happen (especially where Gian is concerned). I can only promise that it will be awesome ;)

I've been using Afrihost a a backup to my 3 other accounts and for my hosting. I'd just like to see if the business uncapped is as nice as the free 1gig. Might just give it a bash consider the cancellation isn't too long like some other ISPs.

They are pretty much identical :) Well - except for the limit of course :D
