Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

This "waiting for IPC" is rather annoying, a lot of people ended up moving to afrihost due to the cost/no shaping it had a few months ago. Seems its time to look around or go back to openweb. Waiting over a month for a fix doesnt seem right for an ISP of this size.

( and yea i know its not a fix, its them waiting on IPC..which is rather bad planning if they couldnt foresee this happening )

As it is currently, its cheaper to go to almost any other ISP and get a better daytime uncapped internet experience on normal accounts.

I made the biggest mistake taking out the 4Mbps Business ADSL... my ADSL was syncing @ 4Mbps perfectly up until I signed up for this service. Now I get dumped with a fault stating my line cannot be migrated because I have pending orders on the line - which I don't. Plus I get told it takes 7-14 days before the line migration will be completed... However it seems like they can't migrate the line.

This means now I'm getting billed by Telkom and Afrihost for a service I cannot migrate. I decided to phone to Accounts to cancel this service yet I'm told that he needs to follow up with support and will phone me back in 15 minutes... it's been 1 hour and no call...

Clearly the definition of: Pure Internet Joy! Is actually pure internet-less pain

In Afrihost's defense, they ordered the extra capacity a long time ago. It's not their fault Telkom Wholesale is as slow as a disabled snail on a broken vespa.

I've been using Afrihost a a backup to my 3 other accounts and for my hosting. I'd just like to see if the business uncapped is as nice as the free 1gig. Might just give it a bash consider the cancellation isn't too long like some other ISPs.

Business Uncapped and Capped accounts are cut from the same cloth, so to speak. They are actually built using the same rules, so the only difference is the rate limit for the product and concurrent connection limit on Business. Otherwise performance should be the same on any services.

I agree that waiting for capacity is a headache - not just for clients, but for us too. It's not like we're not willing to pay, but there is no fixed turnaround time for IPC to be delivered. I read recently that even Telkom's own ISP is battling to get more IPC for themselves, so it's obviously a bit of an issue. We ordered this capacity last year, so it's been a long time coming. If we had some kind of turnaround time for these things it would make it easier to plan. Thus far it seems like it can be anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months for new IPC to be delivered :(

I'm not sure I really understand this here. If I read correctly you have not yet migrated over to us because of a pending order on the line - this is on Telkom's side and we can't clear orders on the line, which we've had some problems with in the past.

In terms of billing, we never bill you for the same service period as Telkom. If the line is not with us yet, then we're definitely not billing you at all for the line. If you mean the data, then we can look into that.

Can you drop me a PM so I can review all of this? I'm sure we can find a very simple way to sort all of this out :(

Afriman / Afriguy ....

I have cancelled with my current ISP because I KNOW you are going to review your pricing .... soon? :D

Durban has been known to be quite heavily shaped, but not that often. Shaping works on a demand based system, so it really depends how busy the network is.

Afrihost have ordered more capacity, and they are just waiting for it to be processed. So soon enough, shaping should ease up quite a bit :)

Thanks - good to know.

Hi There
Thanks for the email:)

I see that you have sign up for a1 free GB account you will need to upgrade your free GB account to 1GB for R29 per month this will allow you to have 1+1

You can also sign up for your other 1GB for R29 for your other line.

Thank you and take care :)

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we may be of further assistance.

Warm Regards
Renaldo

AfriREP. Please make sense of this. <3

Problem is that it says I already have accounts on all the lines....

@AfriPeople

What is the current state of play with regards to new IPC and shaping on home uncapped accounts?

I can't make any promises, so please don't report me to Gian. But I'm pretty confident that we'll be blasting the competition away (we always do) ;)

I don't think I can, but when was this sent to you? :(

If you have a free GB, you don't get double data (that's DSL & Mobile - totally separate products)

Is this not referring to topups and not monthly packages. If you're doing a topup on a Free GB, you could do a 1+1 topup (becuase we offer 2for1 pretty much permanently) for R29.

Otherwise our base paid package is 4GB now for R29.

What was the original question?
