Shaping is done based on demand, so as soon as the network quietens down we start unshaping.

It's been like this for about 3/4 weeks already. Has the network been permanently over-burdened for this whole period?
No-one will be permanently shaped - unless there is a problem on the network. It always depends on demand, but usually you'll be unshaped sometime overnight, even when demand is extreme at peak times.

It isn't the whole day, but it was shaped again at 6 AM when I got up this morning, and when I got home from work, 17:30PM or thereabouts. It's still shaped now.
If we had such a package, it would be an aberration

Better than the constant 3000ms ping I get as soon as I leave town -_-
As for the shaping issues: I've been living on 25% Download/ 12.5% P2P for quite a while (at least for the past week as i've been checking fairly often ever since my latency issues started)

Really sounds like the whole 'we only shape when the network is overtaxed' spiel is nonsense. Either that or the network is permanently fscked.

Had to switch to my Web Africa account which I might keep now and cancel Afrihost!!!!!
Pretty strange cos I'm not seeing the latencies on my reports. Is there any way to find the IP of the server you're playing on?

Not right now, but it wasn't only me with the issues - and I had the issues on both capped and uncapped, as well as on my FNB Connect capped account (which is also MTN backbone).
Guys on other backbones were fine.
Remember it's not just latency - it's also bandwidth. A 50byte ping packet may get through a lot quicker than a 1300 byte game data packet - and the 1300 byte packet has a much higher chance of being disrupted by a flaky link/router somewhere.
