conspiracy?! did they really land on the moon....

Looks like we had a problem this morning on the network. Somewhere between the East and the North there was a network issue causing latency. We've managed to resolve the issue in the North and our team are working with MTN to resolve the performance in the East.

Apologies to anyone having a crappy experience, I promise we're working on this as top priority :(

Not looking good :(
Could be an intermittent exchange issue, are you using our DNS servers?

It seems that Afrihost is now throttling Usenet in the same way as torrents. My 4mb line running at 10KBps. Please confirm.

Have you checked your shaping levels?
Downloads and P2P (which includes NNTP) are subject to shaping.

We haven't changed the way in which we shaped NNTP traffic, it's always been grouped and shaped along with torrents.

Up to this weekend I could still get at lease 1.5mbps at any time on NNTP. Now it is now longer usable. It seems you are blocking certain connections.

I am getting these errors all the time:

[18:42:55] ERROR Error: WSARecv Socket Error Code: 10060 A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

We're definitely not blocking shaped services or servers (unless they have breached our AUP in some way or another). Sounds more like there is an issue with that server/host :(

Well I still cannot use any video streaming on my account when shaping is active.

However the CC team has informed me that they are waiting for feedback from the developers. Using capped in the meantime.

Thankfully my gaming pings have been rock solid. Happy for that.

That's definitely a win for now. I'm sure once we get feedback we can figure this out :)

What has been an interesting experience with this is when using capped how acutely aware I immediately am of whatever I do online in terms of the bandwidth it will use...

Also it has caused me to review my usage. The first few months after I got the account aside (when you generally try and download the internet and catch up on everything) and when I got steam for the first time (last month), my usage seems to be between 200 and 250 gigabytes a month.

Might just ditch uncapped entirely and stick with a 200gb capped account and be done with it. Seems that that is the route most people are going now anyway.
