Why is this network so slow... Afriman whats going on? its been on and off for a few weeks now but today is pathetic. Why is it that on a 10mb uncapped account p2p is this bad, i mean seriously between 2.6 - 5.3kbps... makes me think why the hell I havent move to some other ISP

Many of our clients are currently experiencing slower than normal speeds, and for this I am deeply apologetic, we want everyone to have a great experience using our ADSL accounts!

Our Team is pushing hard to get our additional network capacity in-place and online, you should start seeing improvements in your speeds soon!

We do appreciate our clients sticking with us during this tough time!

Why haven't you moved?

Well I am considering it... you ask why, because Afrihost was once a great network to be on (up until March this year) but it seems they grew to fast and now they sitting with a supply and demand problem

well from a customers point of view...

1.if I'm not getting the service I'm paying for then its like I'm wasting my money because during the period that Afrihost's network is having problems, "x" amount of gigs could have downloaded already, and then you pickup the phone to contact the call center and what do you hear... "pure internet joy", seriously!

2.This is not the first time this has happened to your network, similar thing happened in March this year, can you not forecast that you need to upgrade your network so that these type of scenarios dont occur? so that the customer dont suffer, its just not fair

3. Once again I think you offered a great service up until March 2014 because at the time you could download at a decent speed via p2p, even during the week. Since march its been downhill most of the way and as at today p2p download speeds are between 5kbps and 10kbps... nice work! Its as if you want to grow so fast and market mobile data and mobile phones, ect but when you look back your core network which is ADSL is suffering and not just a little a lot and what is going to be the result? people are not going to wait around till Afrihost get there act together, like what happened to other ISP's and do you think they will just come running back? its not easy to get a customer back if they getting a decent service from a other ISP if they had a bad experience. take a look at FNB's ebucks system that all the other banks started loosing market share that they had to join in, at the end of the day the customer does what is best for him/her not that company that is offering the service... and I am sure you DONT WANT TO LOOSE MARKET SHARE

I hope you take this to your CEO and your head of service delivery

...and remember just as fast as you stood up you can also fall, the key is to balance yourself and then move forward

Lol. Since March? That is 7 months ago.

And you still haven't moved if you weren't getting the product you wanted? 7 months? And post idle threats on a forum? Look at your own post. You haven't moved and many people have the same mentality as you. There is no market share to lose since the customers just stay loyal.

Lol.

Our Team works hard to ensure that our network remains reliable, fast and has enough bandwidth to ensure each of our clients has the best possible service. The problem comes in when bandwidth consumption changes and evolves in ways that we could not predict. Whilst our Client Base has grown in a way we would expect, the bandwidth each person consumes has increased dramatically.

Over the past few months there has been a dramatic upswing in our users making use of streaming services such as Apple TV, Netflix, Hulu and other VOD services, and unlike P2P downloads, streaming primarily occurs during peak times, as users want to watch their preferred content when they are home. This is great to see! But it does mean that we have had to fast-track planned upgrades to get them in place sooner, to ensure our network remains quick for our clients.

I can't expect clients to stick with us when things get bad, but those that do we truly value, as they stick with us through the good and tough times.

The looming upgrades will be in place quite a bit sooner than we expected - unlike in March when we had delay after delay - and once these upgrades are done, things will improve dramatically.

Those results all look pretty good. How has the streaming been over the course of this weekend?

It was fine for most of yesterday, but has presented the same buffering problems the whole of today as it was on Friday. Any idea what's causing this? It's certainly not normal.

We could expect some slow services where demand is unfortunately higher. As soon as see the new iPC lit up, we expect this type of symptom to go away :(

Just a note, as per my posts in the other threads.

Capacity in the East hass been upgraded and is currently live - so we're expecting that additional capacity in other regions will be live very soon.

PLEASE let this help ease the current CONSTANT 18 hour a day shaping! Geez. Or at least unshape downloads from steam!

Downloads in general take up quite a bit of the network's resources :( It's best to schedule the bigger downloads for after hours.

My advice: Leave Afrihost for a better and cheaper ISP if your monthly budget's tight.

I started with an Afrihost Managed 10Mbps line...got downgraded to a 4Mbps line and in March 2014 got downgraded further to 2Mbps line. I experience all the issues mentioned by other clients in this forum but I don't call in anymore because nothing gets done to actually resolve the problem. I have submitted many test reports, had many visits from Telkom (and get told it seems that your ISP is shaping / throttling your service) and I am tired of doing the "rinse and repeat".
I have no other options available to me at my current premises in terms of Business Uncapped Internet at the Afrihost price point, yes I can move ISP's (and I will be doing just that at my new premises) but operational costs are a huge factor.

I have it on good authority that Telkom is also applying their FUP on their Wholesale / ISP customers. This does add to the issues we now experience. In part this then puts a toll on the ISP's network, reducing QoS and forcing a network upgrade in the form of more IPC - this is apart from unprecedented growth due to aggressive marketing on Afrihosts part.

In addition, customer service also took strain as there is a huge learning curve for the new employees...and to be greeted with the tagline "Pure internet joy!" everytime you call the service desk with an issue (not delivering on your service promise) that cannot be resolved but rather being skirted around is disgusting. The blame always lies elsewhere and not with Afrihost it seems - this was not the case in past years.

As mentioned by AfriGuy / Man / Girl / Genie / Transvestite...streaming services has exploded in SA by way of services like UnoTelly etc. If this was a trend picked up by Afrihost earlier in the year then why has it taken so long for upgrades to occur?
Most likely because a capital injection is required for this sort of thing if you are running on very lean margins, therefore the tie-up with MTN - a daddy with deep pockets. This gives the company operations and network the clout it needs to purchase more IPC based on the uptake of services and usage.

Better planning and HONEST COMMUNICATION with your valued clients informing them of the issues you are experiencing would have gone a long way...

I was a champion of Afrihost but I am losing faith - FAST!

I'm not taking about entertainment distro's. It should not be needed for anyone to have to have capped or business to be able to download a 100mb+ update to play a game at 18:00 in the evening.
