Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

So I know you said that changes were incoming to fix teamspeak, but this is just ridiculous.

Today I have been struggling just to get onto teamspeak, and when I finally do get on, I can't stay connected for longer than 50 seconds without being disconnected due to packet loss.
Just switched to Capped Afrihost account, and I am instantly able to connect to the server with no packet loss at all.

:(

Which Teamspeak server are you connecting to?

Could you perhaps check if you running any P2P downloads in the background, even if you are just seeding a download. Are you connecting to any games whilst Teamspeak is open?

Connecting to the mweb gamezone server (voice.gamezone.co.za).
I am not running any P2P downloads. Do not even have any programs open.
When I was testing I had no games open and I wasn't browsing either.

About 10 minutes after my test with the capped account, I was able to connect with my uncapped account. No packet loss at this moment, but that still doesn't change the fact that for the entire day I couldn't get on the servers while using the uncapped account.

This is definitely something I think we need to investigate from our side, would you mind if our Critical Care team contact you? Could you send me a PM with your account details?

Will send you info now. Thanks in advance.

Oh wait, there I fixed it... (Used another of my Turbocharges)

I changed nothing else. Didn't stop any downloads, didn't do anything, just turbocharged. Now it's smooth.

It's been more than a month now and I have had persistent issues on my line, I phoned for support and was told that Afrihost is having problems but nothing has been updated on the network status page.

This has been the single most disappointing and unreliable ISP I have ever used. 18,8% shaping, and I haven't even used 50 gigs yet

When I phoned support I was also told that everyone gets shaped based on the overall usage on the grid and that it was only during prime hours. It's 11:55 PM, 600 ping in my games, 18,8% shaping and can barely open webpages.

Yesterday I thought the problems were gone but they are back. I have updated my router firmware and everything and had my ports reset before but it fixed nothing.

It's a long rant and I apologize, but this is my last holiday for a while and I really wanted just to have a pleasurable gaming/internet experience.

I apologize for posting again but just a further update, 1:32AM and I am not able to stream twitch on low or watch a youtube video on 240p without insane buffering.

I fee like a complaining old man... TS Broken again.

We ran some tests on TS and we're confident that all should be working as it should. We tested on an Uncapped account being shaped and a normal unshaped account and performance was what we expected.

I do see that public vs private TS servers seem to perform differently. Which one are you using?

No need to apologise, Jordan. Aside from the technicalities, our aim is to deliver a good experience and value for your money. Shaping is a reality of the Uncapped product space. We have to shape Uncapped or we won't be able to control the overheads from our upstream bandwidth supplier (MTN). But our shaping is designed to be as fair and responsive as possible, to give you back the maximum amount of bandwidth possible at all times. Peak times are not set, so it all depends on what others are demanding from the network and this will vary from day to day. However, whenever there is an opportunity to unshape as many clients as possible, we do so at every opportunity.

Shaping should never affect your realtime services like streaming, gaming or browsing, etc. Which services are affecting your overall experience?

lol. This is pure gold - apologising for paying full price for a service and then complaining that it doesn't work.

And people wonder why ISPs like AH can get away with what they do.

I personally think there is nothing wrong with an open dialogue, and it's much easier when we do so on a basis of trust.

Please don't discourage others from posting in the way that they'd like. If you have an axe to grind, you have an open invitation to PM me at any time.

Everything, everything is pathetic.. The only thing that works decently is the actual downloads..

:(

Could you provide some examples of the services that are horrible at the moment?

It'll really help me in figuring out what the issue is.

Currently Youtube is running perfectly, streaming at 720p. Twitch TV is streaming on High. Brilliant (Although I doubt it will stay like this).

My ping to a private Mweb teamspeak server is hovering around 44ms with a jitter of 20 and packet loss of 0.40%. This just changed and now my packet loss is at 5.5%
To a Gameserver server, my ping fluctuates between 40 and 60 ms spiking to 80 - 90ms with a jitter of 30 - 40 which spikes to 150 and packet loss of 3 - 4%

CS: GO is unplayable, rubber banding and ping sitting around 130 - 150 ms.
League of Legends is a similar story with my ping sitting at about 300 ms.

The line keeps fluctuating for a second or two it will be at 34ms with 8 jitter and then up to 250ms with 200jitter and 10% packet loss.

I was correct, It takes a about 30 seconds just to open a webpage now. But once I am on the site it works fine.

Twitch isn't working so well anymore and youtube is taking forever to open.

I'm just going to keep editing this post with updates.

Youtube not streaming 720p anymore.

Do you have any TurboCharge sessions available for your Uncapped account? If so, can you please enable a TurboCharge session, then test TeamSpeak and CS:GO again.

It hasn't changed anything at all.

Twitch streams fine on High now, but Youtube is basically broken in terms of loading pages and videos struggle on 480p.

480p is actually okay, 720p is a no go.
