Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

This was to the MTN server in Cape Town from PE (even though speed test indicates that my location is somewhere north)..I thought 26ms from PE to Cpt wasn't too shabby?

Hmmm, I wonder if you're being routes to the wrong IPC. That would make speeds pretty poor cos latency would be a fraction higher.

PM me so I can check this out as well :(

Was it not stated that prices will decrease? Or have priced already been reduced?

Hi Afriman

I am experiencing a weird issue with Dayz Standalone. when my friend and i connect on the to the same server on the same LAN. we cant play we get kicked off with session ended.

If i can connect with FNB connect and we connect again to the same server. we can play without issues.

This has only happened recently, never before.

Im not sure if Afrihost has done something or DayZ

Huh! I was just reading something about DayZ :D Try PM Afriman too, he will be able to help you :)

Account I'm on now is significantly cheaper than AH's 2mb so I will be waiting for your price revision before cancelling.

Sigh.

My internet is working, everything is fine, I haven't had issues the whole day. So what am I supposed to complain about? Can I moan at AfriMan about petrol prices - would that help? I only ask because I'm used to asking for port resets on Mondays to get my internet working again - and since I've moved to Afrihost, all my "line problems" have magically disappeared, as have my need to ask for a port reset every other day.

Afriman, do you have suggestions for what I can complain about on the forum? Otherwise I just won't feel like I'm contributing! Is it acceptable to moan and groan about not having anything to moan and groan about?

As you can tell, I'm a happy Afrihost client - thank you :)

Hahaha, this is brilliant :D Afri-people will be happy to hear that :P

I'm not sure when the new prices will hit. So far it looks like we're waiting a little longer than expected, but that it most likely due to finalising new pricing from MTN after the Telkom IPC cuts which were pretty last minute. I reckon we'd rather wait a little longer if it means we can give even more back to our clients in the end ;)

Quoting from thread #2, page #642:

The issue is pretty much cost. Most ISPs, including ourselves, still pay per GB for the traffic we use, so upgrading a data account free of charge is basically us taking a pretty severe knock. If we can push lot more bandwidth and basically improve our upstream costs, then we would definitely do that, but at present most are cutting things very close to stay competitive. I still think Telkom needs to do more to cut IPC costs so that ISPs can offer more value back to their clients, and also get South Africans onto higher speeds and make using DSL a much more attractive option than mobile.
I hate that ISPs in South Africa are so narrow minded. You're choosing between:

10GB cap at high speed (4Mb/s) or
Uncapped at low speed (1Mb/s) which should net you in excess of 100GB+

For which you pay similar. In fact the uncapped is cheaper. You're worried about bumping prices down because you don't have the bandwidth to provide the lower price. What you don't realize, is that not everyone on uncapped downloads 24/7

I tend to go on download sprees. 15GB in 3 days, then half a GB average for the next 20 days. I would be perfectly happy with 2Mb/s with more aggressive throttling or shaping once I reach around 90GB+ (edit: not really I want 100Mb/s uncapped but if pigs could fly...)

Net result is heavy downloaders still get the same, but users like me can enjoy browsing at double the speed. Opening a graphic-heavy page makes a world of difference on a 1Mb/s moving up to a 2Mb/s line.

Think out the box Afrihost. Get some hybrid offers out there.

You could always complain about e-tolls. Lord knows you'll get a few witnesses here ;)

Great to hear that you're having an awesome experience, so thanks for "moaning" ;)

Personally I don't want a price reduction. Rather up the capacity and keep shaping to a minimum.

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Pushing the new cost savings back into the network to provide a better overall experience for clients would be an awesome idea. Ya

The aim is to deliver both. The capacity upgrade was planned before the price revision, so hopefully we can deliver a double whammy ;)

Anyone have DayZ Standalone.. please can you test if you are using Afrihost uncapped.
Game is unplayable with Afrihost account.

Switch to FNB or Afrihost 1Gb acccount = 100% working.

What happens if you apply a turbocharge? I think dayz runs on a P2P format
