Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I signed up at 09:00, so I take it that I have to wait until they see my ID... oi.......

According to their mails I can use the ADSL immediately. I would surely think that once you sign up, your account should work straight away? Does anyone know how I can get through to them without having to wait 40 minutes in the queue?

I dont see that their live chat is online :/ Maybe just wait a few more minutes, it should all work out. Mine only took around 20Min, but as its a Saturday - they may be running with fewer support staff than usual.

Tried now... number 26 in the queue, 53 minutes waiting time... :(

First day of a new month.... woke up at 07:00 to find the account unshaped YAY!

Downloaded 4.7GB, and now it is back to being shaped at 12.5% and 6.5%!
This is F****ing ridiculous, and totally unacceptable

Still in "Suspended" mode... :(

And caller number 17 in the line with 58 minutes holding time..... REALLY??????????????????????????????????

Did you manage to get through?

Have cellular, will cost me R150 to make that call. Screw that!!!! I have sent a ticket and asked for a call back, still nothing either.... :(

I heard such good things about AfriHost, their control panel is awesome, but waiting an hour to get your account activated? not so ayoba

aaahhh yeeeaahhhhh

Just got an activation SMS, changed details and it's working. now to check out the speeds.....

Almost forgot about my promise to post regular daily pics.

Saturday in Southern Suburbs Cape Town and shaped to hell. Used to at least be able to rely on full speed on weekends. Sigh.

I'm starting to get the impression that this is a glorified Youtube account...

Dunno if I have already said this :D But please switch off protocol prioritization in the new clientzone, under the business account. PP Shaped P2P traffic, but is voluntary on business accounts.

That option only exists in Business Uncapped!
All my posts and comments have been proven over and over again.... Afrihost is over-selling and penalising its existing client base.

THAT's ALL!!!

Netflix isnt really a properly supported service, as it requires workarounds to work - therefore creating unpredictable circumstances which may cause shaping :-(

Try UnoDNS :D I think a lot of users have had success with that :P

Firstly, if you are in South Africa, the only way to get Netflix IS to use a service like UNODNS, so, what you are saying is that if you use any type of proxy, Afrihost cannot guarrantee that it will work???? Even if that proxy is a real-time service that works off HTTP???

...but I thought Afrihost doesn't shape anything other than downloads and P2P.... so how the hell can they claim they don't throttle????

How exactly does the system differentiate between downloads on HTTP (port80) and real-time streaming (port80)?
..must be a pretty smart and sofisticated system, innit?

There is no way to do this without FULL packet inspection! Which means, our data is not secure, and not confidential!
Please understand, I am not here to "OUT" anyone... but don't give frivolous and merritless reasons for a over-sold and poorly managed network.

The CEO sent out an email asking for customer help in placing support staff (only JHB, with a meger R6000-00 salary). Not to mention that the staff needs to be versed in so many qualifications for the position, that an average SHMO could get at least R30 000-00 per month salary for.

Now, I ask you, does ALL of this seem LEGIT to you?????

By the way, according to the site, SSH is considered a real-time service... yet even on my BUSINESS UNCAPPED, I can only download backups off my VPS at 700kB/s at the moment.

My Dad's Standard Uncapped 10MB is shaped to ****, and only manages 300kB/s! Explain to me where exactly the priority is right now, huh?

I AM A BUSINESS UNCAPPED USER, TOO... I SHOULD BE GETTING PRIORITY OVER EVERYONE ELSE!

... but alas, I have to start my new month with another fight.... like I don't have work, or anything better to do - only to be told, "We need to test your line further.... we need more information...blah blah blah".

This is 2 weeks later, on 2 supposedly different products, and yet, both with similar root problems:

1. poor management
2. not enough bandwidth
3. no resolution

WOW.... Even MWEB, with their terrible service and poor communication skills, didn't degrade the product that badly?

Please AFRIHOST.... don't make me put you in the category of useless, money-grabbing, greedy, etc., etc, ISP's....

I just want the level of service and product performance I enjoyed prior to last Sunday, and the 2 months before. Is that too much to ask???? I should hope not.... I AM PAYING FOR IT

Firstly - MWEB are THE"' money-grabbing, greedy,'' ISP and quite frankly they or rather their new Chief Executive Idiot is either a YES man or poor businessman - not sure dont care. Afrihost has a way to go yet before they get there.

Secondly - You deserve good service - something South Africa in general is lacking BIG TIME, albeit, I am relatively new to AH, and have not had cause to complain as yet. In defence of AH they have admitted their service is wanting, so this bodes well.

Finally - Indeed you are paying for a service - a business service if I am not mistaken - and should get better attention. I intend to go this route and so will be watching your posts and responses with KEEN interest.

Good luck - keep us posted please.

Could be an ANC plot for DA country :D:D:D

I am in the Kingdom of the Zulu and the province of the Nkandla shack .. and no problems ....:D

Note
Parody ... not serious, not intended to offend anyone- except anyone in KZN who has a fire water dam closely resembling an Olympic size pool ;) and the shack owner is frowned upon by goons in Red Berets ....

Yup - the shaper does inspect the packets to determine its shaping profile. However - what I meant was - due to the need to use a proxy, Netflix data has to follow a completely different route to get to you - and may therefore not be classified correctly :/

Afriman and Afriguy knows much more about how the shaping system works, so I'll let them explain :)
