Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I wasn't aware that the same network capacity was used for MTN's cellular and ADSL networks.

Please remove 3G from this discussion, I'm only talking about ADSL and AH's IPC situation.

AFAIK, 3G does not come from the ADSL IPC poo of datal, but from the MTN APN which links straight onto the MTN 3G network.

Then how would an iOS update affect Afrihost ADSL subscribers?
The previous time AH was so terrible, the initial excuse was that the AH network was taking strain and that an iOS update released was supposed to be the culprit.

It turned out to be the beginning of another long period of absolute horror for AH clients.

It seems that there was an upsurge, causing all this shaping. Same as last time - not really sure what :P

I've been wondering what exactly the cause of this increased demand in the South is. Perhaps it's due to lots of people moving to Afrihost due to their advertising and competitive prices. I've often thought that they didn't plan for what they'd do if their marketing effots paid off.

I dont think it's that they don't plan, but rather that they possibly didnt expect suuch a demand. I cant really comment 'cause I have no stats or anything :/

More likely profit taking. They also have kept the uncapped pricing unchanged and the lines at the same speed, despite Telkom upgrades.

I think it started with a mass migration from Mweb when they started abusing their clients. Thereafter, after the lack of bandwidth on Telkom's backhaul people are jumping between ISP's in order to bypass exchange congestion.

What does Telkom line speed upgrades have to do with the package you choose from your ISP?

Nothing directly (apart from bunbled), but maybe he was referring to all the other ISP's dropping their uncapped account prices at the same time as the line upgrades.

Any further improving of deals on Afrihost's side will just attract even more consumers (who don't know how bad it is at the moment, shame) and make existing customers' experiences even worse.

That’s why I moved, but at least with MWEB I could download at full speed (torrents, http and news servers) up until the point that they began throttling. And I knew when that point was. With Afrihost it’s no downloads at all, all month long. I kept my MWEB contract and am just using that now, even though it’s half the speed.

ISPs tend to drop their prices or upgrade speeds after Telkom price reductions.

+10000000
...same here.... even the throttled 4MB MWEB account was much better than the 10MB AH I have now. To test, I still have a 1GB MWEB, and that flies now matter what time of day.

Please could I ask, on behalf of all of us who stayed with MWEB, that you all please stay with AH... Thanks :)
