Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I don't know whats happening but network performance seems to be getting better in the South? Shaping is still maxed out for most of the day but I seem to be moving more traffic after hours...

I think demand may be settling a little due to the known issues, and we're also optimising where we can for best performance.

Let's hope Telkom deliver on time for us :)

I just cancelled with openweb and am looking at afrihost. Hows the situation with speeds in KZN area and will the new IPC affect my area?

We are awaiting an IPC upgrade in the East (KZN area) as we're seeing increasing demand for the region. We should be receiving that capacity very soon. You should still be seeing good speeds, especially on priority real time services.

Have you signed up a Free GB to test our network?

Im currently using a topup account. It works very well, but using a capped account as a benchmark when wanting to go uncapped would be very retarded of me, because no way would it perform the same. My openweb account shuts down end of may, so we'll see when I sign up for an uncapped account in june.

I'm really not trying to sound like a trouble customer, but the reason im leaving openweb is because of poor performance and I don't want to find myself just hopping from one frying pan into another

Definitely understandable. They are very different products but it just gives an indication of how the network can perform, especially on real time services.

By May/June I'm confident that we'll have put our upgrades in place with Telkom, and hopeful additional capacity contingencies for future demand management improvements :)

4Mbps, EC

Afrihost International. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this does not qualify as broadband for a 4 Mbps line?

We're investigating some issues EASSy, which will probably affect East clients more than others. I'll give you more feedback as soon as I get an update on this.

Probably explains some international performance issues.

Thank you.

Edit:
Pings are back to what I'm used for a 4Mbps line.
Download speed is also what I'm used too.

Local:
Ping is about 34ms higher than when I joined 2 months ago, but speeds are on par what I'm used too.

I am unable to open gumtree.co.za on my afrihost adsl, working fine on vodacom broadband. Anyone else have this problem?

Definitely seems to be working on my side. Can you please run a traceroute to the URL? And confirm if you're going via a firewall or directly over the router/WiFi.

Confirmed with our team that international latency and throughput should be totally normal now :)
