@wingnut771 I was synced at 20Mbs on ADSL2+ for a day until Telkom did a port reset and I was brought back down to 10Mbs,i then phoned and they said that my line is not 20Mbs capable. Till this day the person I spoke to on the phone who "did a test on 20Mbs sync profile" and let me taste the good life for a day cannot be found.

They resolve to different IPs. Web Africa looks to redirect that locally while AH goes international. That's perfectly normal. Lot's of Google stuff is hosted locally.
Okay thats all fine then, forgot about that. But why am I getting 400ms+ in League of legends and 280ms ping to a TS server which is in Cape Town? This happened last night as well.

Internet is so slow this morning. I saw on the Afrihost website that there is an ADSL Latency issue in Gauteng, but when I click for info. It says it is resolved. It doesn't feel resolved!
I really hope you guys get some more IPC in Joburg soon. I'd like the shaping to ease off a little during a night.

There's been an intermittent issue with Latency on the North network, seems to have gotten worse over Sunday evening. We're busy investigating the issue with MTN, but the cause seems to be a failure of a small portion of the IPC. Once we've confirmed this with Telkom we should be able to restore full capacity again. For now we're shaping as hard as possible (on Uncapped accounts) to control latency - especially with many people back at work after the string of long weekends and holidays.
If all goes well, shaping (on Uncapped) should control latency and should give mostly normal performance on unshaped services. Clients in the affected region may experience slightly higher latency - we're hoping this will not be excessive - we'll have to see as demand continues.
We're hoping to have this all sorted out as quickly as possible.

I'm based in KZN and have been suffering terribly. Basic live streams, which used to not be a problem have been absolutely terrible.
I'm concerned with Afrihost's popularity vs ability at this stage as I feel like the network capacity is being put under load. Perhaps recommending everyone onto an ISP that is delivering great speeds is not the best idea.
Appreciate Afrimans comments above, however feel like this has been ongoing now for a little longer than what is should have.

Yeah my entertainment is all via streams, also suffering like you are. And again sorry for bringing Mweb up for the 1000th time, same streams here at work while steam is updating at 128KB/s, flawless. Just a pity they are R200 more a month. Even with turbo charge from Afrihost the streams buffer.

In KZN we really should not be having issues, especially realtime. We've just recently upgraded the IPC and we've put in a failover to ensure that we don't suffer from demand spikes.
From my reports, there is peak time shaping, but the network is performing well within limits. I think we need to do extensive troubleshooting here

That's a little strange, cos we're definitely not reporting issues on the KZN network.

Oh no, Pretoria East here. On the networks best day it is still like this. Not sure if you and Mweb are using different sources for bandwidth, it is unfortunately just better on the Mweb network. I use a Mikrotik RB750 with a single port Billion modem as my main router and with my tests done in the past, on Nowvideo Afrihost will do between 300kbps and 700kbps, on mweb it will do a minimum of 2mbps and max out the line.

We'll we're definitely on a different core network, but at the end of the day we'd need to establish where the difference as, whether it's routing, latency or throughput and which services seem to exacerbate those symptoms.

It's got to do with the upstream providers and who they peer with. More than likely AH upstream providers don't peer with Twitch's network or Netflix's, while MWEB's and IS's does.
I actually have a friend that woved from Afrihost Business to an IS account(Web Africa Business) and he says the streaming is 10times better. I'm also on Web Africa Business and can simultaneously stream Netflix and Twitch on High without buffering.
Looks like the North IPC is back up and we should be bringing services back to normal.

I doubt that any local network can peer directly with on overseas network. It's more likely that they peer with a CDN like Level 3. We definitely peer with the major CDN's, and I'm pretty sure they're the same as used by other SA ISPs.

As far as I can see they are going via a CDN - can't say offhand which one it is though

I can attest to this. As much as I hate Mweb, my streaming on Netflix was nothing but flawless.
On a 4Mb/s line, it streamed at 720p with no effort, and on the off occasion it would stream at 1080p.
I struggle to maintain a 720p stream with Afrihost.
