There is some loss throughout the day, but it gets worse in the evenings at peak time.

Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I don't believe that you're not experiencing issues (because I am too!), but I don't trust PingPlotter one bit.
I've seen people use that on MPLS VPN networks which are rock solid (i.e., not MTN!) - that thing finds packet loss where there is none.
I don't know the exact amounts at this point. I understand that it will be enough for the current demand and the foreseeable future.
It looks a lot better than previous and looks like minimal errors. Do you get the same results testing on a different network?
Speeds are all over the place this morning. I'm ftping a video file I need to edit from a local server (they have a 40 meg line), and the speeds are going from 200kbps to about 60kbps then 90kbps for awhile.
I have 4-meg uncapped, but I haven't been able to download via ftp over 200kbps for a month now (unless I turbocharge, then its full speed), so I'm use to the half my line and account speed. But today's speed is especially slow. I've asked the techies that run servers, and there is nothing wrong on their side. I've checked my phone line on Afrihost, and everything is fine. I tried a trial WebAfrica account to try, and I get a full 420kbps for the past hour on the file. So there is definitely something wrong somewhere... or just Afrihost have not enough bandwidth and too many business and capped users?
I really hope the new IPC sorts out some of these issues. It so sad seeing Afrihost's uncapped accounts keep getting worse.

Just curious, has anyone ever managed over 400KB/s on an afrihost uncapped 4mbps line, not business?

Yes it's better, but 7% loss is not minimal by a long shot. Even if it's "better" now, tonight it will just be terrible again. The problem is gone when I switch to my WebAfrica account.

Hi Guys, so my Adsl went down yesterday and I have been strugling with AH support since then.
This morning my netgear stopped picking up the adsl line all together. So I plugged in my ZyXel VDSL router and the line has synced now at 20Mbps, keep in mind I have a 10Mbps Business account.
Now no one from AH has been able to tell me what the settings on the ZyXel router should be in order to authenticate and establish connection.
Any ideas?

Sounds like we need to take a closer look at this, have you brought anything up with our team?
The line should run as close to the sync speed, however you need to remember that overheads and accounting systems that communicate with the exchange also take up some of the line speed.
Very strange, perhaps your area is VDSL ready? Or it's a fluke.
I'd like to check it out and possibly advise further settings - could you drop me a PM please?

After spending 1.5 hours playing Diablo 3 @ 2500ms latency (it hit 5400ms at one point) so that the network providers could analyse the traffic from my account. Telling me they "picked up http, torrents, blizzard updates, EA game amongst other services running on the same account."
The only applications running were battle.net launcher and diablo 3...
It goes back to the same story of a capacity issue.... yeah gaming, an unshaped service getting melted yet I start up my steam updates and it putts along at 120kB/s.
Uncapped account, purely used for gaming... a rock would make a better connection to a B.net gaming server right now.
Cancellations.. where art thou?

Just make sure the netgear has static IP address (eg: 192.168.1.2) different from zyxel (eg: 192.168.1.1).
