I was getting some bad latency last night on Diablo 3. Nothing was utilising network resources except my game client. Latency was from 300ms - 1200 ms at times. Lasted for a few hours then stabilised.

Please drop me a PM with your user info and any diagnostics you have available :)

Thanks for getting back to me....by not actually getting back to me on Friday.

I just used a 60 minute Turbo. Now all of a sudden my Youtube is running at full speed. So yes, it seems your shaper is indeed broken. As I said on Friday, and I will say again. Can you fix this....

Sorry I missed your post on Friday :(
Youtube isn't affected by shaping, could be an intermittent latency issues creeping in somewhere. When you notice slowdown/ buffering again could you run a traceroute any paste it up here?

Not sure what this is going to show you but OK. I will say again. A 4mbps line can't watch 720p? C'mon now...I have a tool that sits and shows me my live internet speed usage. It will spike to 3.6mbps and then sit at 2000kbps...while watching 720p. This is not right.

When I used the Turbocharge as seen in my earlier post, I waited for ~2mins to take affect, refreshed the page, set 720p and then my usage shot up to 3.6mbps and hovered there throughout the clip.

Could this have anything to do with upgrading from a 2mbps last week? I'm telling you AfriMan, something is slowing my line down in Youtube but it goes away when I use Turbocharge. Which means this is definitely your side. Let me just say again, this IS 100% on YOUR side.

PS: I just activated another Turbocharge session after writing this, I can now watch the 720p clip I've been trying to watch. Again, after Turbocharge, it sticks to 3.6mbps. Before I activated Turbo, 2000-2100kbps.

This is shocking - authentication down AGAIN! No ADSL or Afrihost MTN device working, AGAIN!! And Afrihost's idea of network monitoring appears to be waiting for "reports from users" to tell them when there is a problem. Two nights last week and again tonight, unable to connect. Using an MWEB 7 day trial try before you buy account - might just stick with it at this rate.

And methinks sister company Axxess is having the same problem. They all sold their souls to the devil (MTN) you see

Hey guys

I'm sincerely sorry about the downtime :( I know this really sucks.
Not too sure if this is related to last weeks issue as that should have been resolved.

We are aware and working on a fix for this, I'm sure it'll be up sooner rather than later.

That's a pretty broad issue, saying authentication, million little things make it up.

Not really. Ultimately just a realm on some radius server platform, I would imagine. And in this case specifically the one apparently maintained by MTN for Afrihost.

Well I thought that I'm getting crazy!
Got new modem last night, configured it before connecting.
Then swapped units and connection failed, check passwords and config all looks ok.
Try again, not working.
Plug old unit guess what, not connecting, authentication failure.
Since I'm over 40 and memory is not working well, I modified password via phone, try again not working.
Check user name, all looks ok.
And then finally check network status !@#$@#$@#$@#$@

We'll be shaping everyone from around 7-7:30am and unshaping them again after 10pm. It will be pretty much this way for at least the next few days as we test on our side.

This will be across all 3 regional networks.

Shaping to test the network? Really? I'm no expert, but that smells of bullsh*t!

Always authentication problems -_- Not sure why you guys cannot get it right...

I know these issues suck big time. I don't know enough about last night's incident yet, but I am hoping it's not related to the previous auth issues. We're working with MTN top brass to get this figured out :(

It is a really complex chain of software, hardware and data streams from multiple sources like MTN and Telkom, with multiple databases. It takes a team of highly qualified engineers to maintain, so I wouldn't pretend that I know more than a high level overview. I do have faith in our people, if it has them stumped (for the moment) then I believe it's a very complex issue.

We have the full resources of MTN at our disposal to find a solution for this, and I believe we will get this permanently fixed.

We're testing the limits of the network and also the performance of premium services. However, as I said, we may make changes based on our findings to how our Uncapped system works to provide the absolute best experience to our clients.

Checked my torrents this morning and it was flying. On 100gb capped now. Going to see how it goes this month. May have to upgrade to business uncapped if I run out of data. Last month only managed around 70gbs.

Capped should have excellent performance. Becuase of the shaping we're doing, Capped and Business should really be awesome on all services.
