Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

We can definitely continue to test the circumstances that you are running your services to see if we can improve service. Remember that QoS would only come into play if you are running multiple services, so that would be the first place to start.

Well I guess we'll have to wait a month when I can change back to uncapped then .

What interests me is your last statement that QoS will only come into play when multiple services are running, as my netflix performance wasn't any better even when that was the only service running.

My cousin changed from uncapped to capped just as I did and his experience has been exactly as mine. This really makes me think that it's not something specific to an individual but something relevant to the entire uncapped network.

We'll need to monitor the traffic from your username and determine if the Uncapped accounts is treating traffic differently that your Capped account, and then see if the policy can be adjusted to treat gaming traffic correctly.

We'll need to set this up with our network team so that we're all looking at this at the time that you're testing.

It's not just me experiencing this. As I said my friend experienced the same problem and there was someone else in this thread as well.

When can we do this though? Because having to dial up a separate account all the time just to play games is a nuisance especially since I can't stream any music while playing because then there goes my free gig of data.

It won't really help to pre-empt proper testing. It's best that we investigate thoroughly to see what the cause is behind what you're experiencing. It could be that you and the other people experiencing this have something common like router model (or firmware version), DNS provider or are on the same DSL exchange. We have to test further to find the cause a solution we can test.

Even two users with a similar experience is not necessary indicative of a network wide issue. There is a as good a chance that you have common denominators. Remember that we have tens of thousands of Uncapped clients and DSL clients in SA, and we analyse the feedback from all sources to look for a common thread of good or bad experiences, as well as our own internal monitoring looking for specific performance markers.

Nobody should be shaped for a full 24 hours, unless general demand is very high or you are an exceptionally aggressive user.

Drop me a PM and I'll check your account to see if you are being unshaped (or shaped) as you should be according to the network demand after 10pm.

Please don't talk nonsense to me and stop feeding myself and others your rehearsed bull crap

I know for a fact that I've been shaped NON-STOP for over a week now.
I am by no means an aggressive user, on average, my data usage is less than 30GB per month.

Afrihost is pathetic, end of story.

You should definitely look at a capped option if you only use ~30Gb a month.

Yeah so how do we go about getting this investigation going so this can get sorted because honestly if i have to deal with this for any longer I might as well change providers.

If that is the case, then I would need to investigate further. If your usage is that little, you should be one of the first to be unshaped and that should happen within the first hour on most days.

You are welcome to PM if you'd like to me to help you resolve this :(

Drop me a PM so I can get one of our experts to start troubleshooting with you.

It's not as simple as that. I also used to use very little data at times while on UNCAPPED (busy at work etc) but other times I would use much more data. That's what I meant with the flexibility of uncapped with a previous post of mine. Now on CAPPED, I have to constantly monitor AND limit how much data I use even I really don't consider myself a heavy user. I'm happy with the performance of capped, but not happy with the capped experience.

Dont bother. I went through all that crap in an attempt to get diablo 3 fixed, as it was(most prob still is) being falsely shaped. After their network team "monitored" my account traffic at the beginning of june, for 2 hours while i played Diablo 3 @ 2500ms, it still wasnt fixed. At the end of June, when i cancelled their crap service it was STILL broken @ 2000+ ms.

You dont notice the shaping on higher speed lines, with a 1mb account and 12% shaping its pretty obvious in games that require alot of constant realtime data streaming (d3/dota/LoL etc)

Its just a complete waste of time trying to help them fix their own network, only to be told stupid #%*! like "shaping doesnt affect latency", regardless of the proof you provide.

Well dont bother playing Warthunder on a uncapped afrihost account,, you wasting your time.

You are very good at your job, answering questions by not answering them. PR 101.

We'll chat again in a month's time.

Right.
I just walked into a Mugg And Bean for a quick coffee while waiting for a shop to open.
And seeing as I have wifi roaming active on my account - I thought I could use AlwaysOn for the first time.
I'm so glad I also brought my ****ing work 3G modem.

AlwaysOn keeps on asking me to migrate my account and does not want to accept my Hotspot password as set up on Clientzone.
I connect - select afrihost - type in my username as specified on Clientzone, type in my password, and then the whole process starts again - it keeps on asking me to migrate my account. I mean - wtf?! - So much for convenience of access.
Can anyone point me to the faq on this?

I totally get what you're saying here. I guess one would need to balance that with your spend, and see whether you could achieve the experience you're looking for on Uncapped with Turbocharge, or Business or Capped. We'll continue to tweak and optimise Uncapped performance as well until we finalise how we'll be running them in the future.

If we monitored the traffic on your account and verified that there was no shaping on the traffic (it would mean that we had someone at the data centre monitoring the traffic off the shaper directly while you were moving traffic) then I would be confident that shaping was not the issue.

With a game as popular as Diablo, one would expect to have a lot more complaints if we blanket shaped or misclassified traffic. It's really best to troubleshoot individually rather than assume the network is broken or something is shaped without the right kind of testing.

Have you already activated WiFi data on your account? If so, you should be able to connect using your regular credentials. If the drop down list shows the Afrihost option, then it means our service is supported in that location.

Sounds like we need to raise a ticket with AlwaysOn, but let me run through all the checks with you. Please PM me :)
