Thank goodness I moved away from Afrihost! I could not take it anymore...Very happy with my new service provider.
Who'd you go to? I've over this AfriHost bull. My ticket hasn't been responded to since September... And that was with Critical care. PM'd the Afripeople with the ticket # and nudda... Over it.
Tried moving my uncapped account to a 1gig capped account for the 1st November. Instead they moved me over today, then tried to charge me pro-rata to move it back to uncapped. Waiting for ticket support or afriguy to respond for a resolution. You can barely be on the network, then they make like difficult when you try move.
Why not just let it work from today and grab another account from a different ISP?
Most ISPs will give you a free week for signing up so late in the month.
Just worried that the ISP that I want to move to, doesn't operate on what is effectively a Sunday which leaves me out of internet until Monday? I mean, how far can 1 gig get you. I am not entirely fussed if the account has moved, I just don't want to be in a situation in which I am left with no internet due to a mistake.
Up at 5am, starting work early today. So I try log in to my gmail quickly before leaving. Took me 2 mins to open my inbox. Fine on MWeb account, capped account was slower than MWeb but still faster than the uncapped acc. But I mean, this is gmail we're talking about here. Browsing.
At 5am.
Has anybody else noticed routing problems separate from the bandwidth situation?
I have twice now run into problems connecting into remote servers, international and local. In the first case, a local server, the Citrix connection (port 443) works on uncapped but not capped. In the second case, I can't connect via RDP (3389) or PPTP to a server in the US right now even though I could at 4am. In both cases I have zero problems connecting over e.g. Vodacom 3G. Maybe there's more to this problem than just capacity, a story which simply cannot be true so many months and so many 2-1 bandwidth promotions down the line? Bob the Network Guy left and nobody knows how to keep the ship afloat?

Afrihost never call you, they always just send you another mail, sometimes you need to speak to your customers! Replying quickly to mails and tickets quickly does not = good customer service. Read your ticket, read the mail trail before asking questions that was asked before.
Went over to Webafrica but did also change from Uncapped to capped. Did also test Afrihost free capped account, but Webafrica was definitely giving me better performance.

That's definitely not cool. While I now we are still waiting for an upgrade in the South, we should be seeing generally better performance than that, especially on a priority real time service.
Did you see any increase in either latency or drop in throughput when you switched to Uncapped?
Sorry to hear that we're not responding to your query as we should. I don't think you dropped me a PM, but if you're with Critical Care you should be getting some one on one service to resolve your query.
Drop me a PM and I'll follow this up.
Definitely a drop in throughput, I didn't check the latency as much, especially because the capped account was slightly better and MWeb was completely fine, so I think I isolated the problem to the uncapped account. Then btw, last night I was completely unable to stream Netflix on uncapped. Didn't even want to START streaming at low quality. Switched to capped, and it streamed at lowest quality with a lot of buffering. Switched to MWeb, and it streamed at SuperHD with no buffering.
You're right, I've checked and I didn't PM you, I PM'd AfriGuy.
I think there is a lot of contention on the South network. Even though we've scheduled upgrades demand continues to increase. It does sound like a throughput issue on Capped and Uncapped.
So to ask the same question again, will the upgrade alleviate it on both capped and uncapped, will it reduce shaping on uncapped, and will it last for a while at least this time?
Ok, that's something, but definitely hoping for shaping to return to the levels they were at before. In other words, rarely shaped, and only lightly when it is.The upgrade will definitely ease the high demand we're seeing, so you'll have a better overall experience.
From what I understand, we're still collecting and analysing data around shaping, for now - it's staying as is while realtime services stay unshaped.
