How long does it take for a technician to come out to "check" whatever he needs to? I am not going to pay another R1000+ on a 10mbps line while Im only getting 2mbps

Can I assume you're referring to a Telkom tech?
If so, it depends on their workload and availability in the area :( Drop me a PM with your line number and I can follow up on the fault for you.

We've been working pretty hard to ensure that we identify traffic correctly on the network and we haven't rolled out new changed since this was all working.

Have you tested if Turbocharging immediately improves your experience?

Yes, TurboCharging sorted out the lag.

The drops won't be coming from our end.
Could you PM me your DSL username so I can have a look at the authentication logs?
No worries Afriguy I left the router off for about 30min and then it came right.

Then you should be in the South network. I know demand is usually at it's peak just after 8pm, so we'll need to monitor this to see if there is anything happening at this time of the evening :(

so what you are telling me its better so start shopping for better service at another isp and take my R13 000 to them coz this problems are going on for more than 2 moths now even with the extra capacity...

Which game are you playing that's seeing higher than normal latency?

League of legends and team speak have packet loss and every few seconds it say attempting to connect...

I'm not sure if we have asked this yet, but are you running any P2P downloads or updates in the background? Generally we have seen this happen on our testing when an active gaming session is happening, with P2P downloads running in the background as well as Teamspeak.

Second night that it gets to after 10pm and my latency in DDO and Raidcall goes up. Just the game and raidcall running, nothing else.

My ping with prepaid AH, WA or Mweb ranged from 255-285, now I have this -

Come day 3, if I keep having this, I'm cancelling and would not even think twice about not paying.

Your ping results are very intermittent here, and it seems to be weird inside our network, though destination latency does not seem very poor.

I think we'll need to test further with you, it doesn't seem consistent with what we're seeing in general at the moment :(

I think it's definitely a valid question though. Services can contend with each other and cause varying experience. It's always good to test service individually and see which service, when added, seems to cause contention and disrupts normal performance.

Thanks for the reply. What would be involved with 'further testing' then? I'll be honest, I don't have the patience for this performance past another day or 2 at the most. I don't want to sign up for something and have it crap out on day one, I'd rather save my stress and move to another account asap.

Are you only seeing the latency spikes up later at night when gaming? If so, could you try a turbocharge to see if this helps with anything?

I feel your pain Mephisto.

I've given up trying play anything p2p on Afrihost uncapped when shaping is active.

Either it gets shaped to hell, gets packet loss, or it works for a night or two and then relapses to a broken state. Add in software like Mumble that gets shaped etc and it's just a damn hassle I don't need. I've run tests, sent the results. Not interested in repeating this process ad infinitum when it just works on a competitor's network. I don't mind assisting with tests...up to a point.

WA account all the way I'm happy to say.

AfriGuy...it's been said how many times the last 4 pages that turbo charging alleviates this problem...from various people, myself included.

1 - Ye, latency spikes worse at night when it should be lessening. The slow pages and terrible streaming is all day. Downloading for now is pretty good, even more so during the day

2 -

Activate Turbocharge

You Have 0 Turbo Minutes Available

You will need to purchase additional turbo minutes before you can activate Turbocharge

Not spending to test.

Do you have a traceroute that I can look at when the latency spikes up?
