Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Hi there,

I actually posted an issue with my Afrihost line, didn't see that there was a specific thread for it.

@afriguy and @afrigenie, please check this - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ing-major-issues-with-Afrihost-(MTN-backbone)

I just ran a small test for the last 30min using my linux gateway to record throughput. Since this is the default gateway for my entire network, its not possible for "other computers or devices" to be causing slow speeds as I am continuously told on your support lines. For added benefit, I ran a continuous ping to "72.26.108.9", which is a UK address that I have always used (just an old habit) for latency tests. I then proceeded to do some web related work (no downloading, etc.). Please see the image below for the results.

If I change to another ISP that doesn't use the MTN backbone, I have perfect latency, 400KBps download speeds and zero packet loss.

This has been my experience for over 2-3 weeks (probably longer actually). I have submitted tickets, I have made a number of tweets (my twitter account is starting to look like an Afrihost hate board lol) and I have sent everything asked for (trace-routes, etc).

This is my last attempt to try salvage a solution for these issues so please Afrihost, stop wasting my time and money and give me the service I am paying for. I literally have to purchase a capped account from one of your competitors so I can play some Star Citizen and Dota 2, its extremely frustrating.

mulletman i have the same problem and that started when they made an move to the mtn backbone i am also trying and trying and getting up with it...

Okay so whenever I play CS:GO (It's 6:51pm now) my ping spikes to 500 and at the end of every round it goes down for about 10 seconds and then goes back up and follows that pattern the entire game.

My ping is league of legends is 180 (Perfect.) It's now 6:54pm

Oh, my ping in Arma 3 is also perfect to all places.

We've done a lot of testing with CS:GO with and without Teamspeak running in the background, and we've found it works perfectly on the network (we did a stress test of about 6 hours a few nights ago). We really don't believe that this is a shaping issue. It's possible that the server you're gaming on uses non-standard traffic or ports that we are not aware of of, but definitely the most popular servers worked perfectly and we had about 4-5 players jamming off a single connection.

I'm really sorry that you are having this poor experience. In that time period we have been seeing increased demand on the network and we do have our very best people working on this. In recent weeks we've also seen latency spike at the highest peak, but we seem to be getting latency a little more stable, while throughput still can be improved to a large degree.

Please just explain to me, why you still accept new users onto your network when you know you are having problems, is this not business 101?

4:40pm and cannot connect to a League match although my ping is good it just wont connect. It's like I have 100% packet loss.

Just looking at teamspeak, it's no wonder I cannot connect. Web pages are opening up extremely slowly and my packets loss is so bad I lose connection to teamspeak.

:(

That's not cool at all.

Which game are you having these difficulties with?

If you enable TurboCharge on your Uncapped account does it make any difference?

I've tried turbo charge and it does nothing. I'm having difficulties with all my games at the moment and web browsing. Once a website actually loads, videos play fine and twitch streams fine, but the actual pages take forever. I can't do much. This line is only good for downloading and even that's shaped so what is it actually good for?

Google.com cannot load and cannot download from google drive. Other sites seem ok, though they are slow.

Same here and for a while now. Turbocharge and all is suddenly hunky dory, more proof that its not only downloads and p2p that is being shaped. So tired of this, moving swiftly along...

Playing War Thunder, 90% packet loss. Every few weeks there's an issue with the network. Why. Why is there ALWAYS some issue.

If running a Turbocharge does nothing, it is definitely not related to shaping on the network. We are running ongoing tests and making changes where we can to improve the performance and experience. Unfortunately shaping is a reality of the uncapped space, but our aim is to deliver the best internet experience and quality realtime priority services. I know we've fallen short of the mark of late, but our team are working hard on getting the network where it should be.

I saw some reports of this yesterday. From one trace it looked like routing to the cache node for YouTube. We've reported this to the network team.

Any reports on whether this has changed from the user side?
