Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I seem to have the same problem, only its intermittently...

Anyways AfriGuy I noticed that the Shaping hasn't stopped for a few days now what the hell? You claim its the demand of the Network ....So if this is how bad the demand is on your network don't you think you should upgrade already? Its fine take our money and shape us all day and night

If there is an intermittent issues with DNS, using two different DNS Services - such as the Afrihost DNS and the Google DNS - will alleviate this greatly.

The shaping I'm afraid is something that comes part and parcel with Uncapped accounts. As much as I want to ensure our Uncapped users aren't EVER shaped, this is not the reality, our standard Uncapped accounts are shaped, and this shaping depends on how much demand there is on our network.

That being at said the shaping should not be 24 hours in any of the regions, be it the North, South, and East, as there is drastic drop-off in usage from 22h00, and our Uncapped users should easily be unshaped until 08h00 the next morning.

Can you please send me a PM with your account details so that I can check that your account is being unshaped as it should be.

Well only one thing the shaping was bad. 7am - 12 am. 17hours of shaping everyday. Couldn't take it anymore. Updates took forever and I was paying for 10mb line but only getting 12% of that line most of the time. And I know the depends on demand thing. Well I don't need to depend on the demand anymore.
Before
17 Hours - 12% of my line
7 Hours - 100% of my line

Now
24 Hours - 100% of my line

Funny thing I don't even download that much. 200gb-300gb.

I understand fully, shaping can be a pain, but if your usage was at that level, one of our Capped Bundles may have been one alternative to try. You could for example have gotten a 100GB + 100GB Capped Bundle with a 10Mbps ADSL line for less than your 10Mbps Uncapped Bundle.

Thanks for your feedback, it really does help us in figuring out what we need to work on.

The primary DNS I provided is the primary Afrihost DNS Server, and the secondary is the Google DNS. I usually recommend using those two to have a bit of redundancy.

You shouldn't be having any issues with your Google Services at the moment, there have been quite a few issues with Chrome itself, and Google Services but other than that, if you switch to those DNS Settings and still have an issue with the Google Services, please let me know!

Which web browser should I be using? Will give the DNS settings a shot tonight....

The actual web browser is entirely up to you, but I just need rule out that Chrome is causing the issue, so if for example you have the same issue with FireFox, then we know your Chrome is working just the way it should be.

Yaaaaayyyyy!!! Finally cancelled! Took forever but by the end of the month I will be problem free :D

Thanks Afridudes for all the time you took to try and keep me with you guys, you guys are good at what you do and put up with a lot of crap so really I wish you guys well.

As for the rest of your company, straight up pathetic and should probably get away from MTN.

:(

I'm really sad to see you go, and I'm really disappointed that we couldn't get your account running the way it should be!

If I can help with anything else in the future, please let me know!

In terms of packet loss, I'm with you there.
Switch to WebAfrica account and everything works fine.
Switch back to Afrihost and packet loss comes back again. (Teamspeak)

Last night sites wouldn't load and this morning some sites are loading slow and others aren't loading at all.

The last couple of months have been torture on Afrihost. The service has been getting slower and slower.
Talking to support hasn't helped either, as they keep thinking something is wrong on the Telkom side even though when I switch to WA, my packet loss goes away.

Seriously consider jumping ship. If my parent's weren't so against switching ISP's I probably would have left in Feb already.

I know that we have seen some poor performance on TS, but this has always turned out to be in public TS servers, especially when non-standard ports/protocols are used. Can you confirm which port your server is using?

Where do I need to go to check this? I just connect to Voice.gamezone.co.za

It should be whatever port comes after the URL when you sign on.

example voice.gamezone.co.za:9987

At present I'm just connecting with voice.gamezone.co.za
Not specifying a port. Never needed to do it and it worked fine for years.

I can't see any connect info on the gamezone site that specifies a port either.

Looks like latency to the UK is fine, but seems to spike on the hosting network. Does it behave differently with another ISP account?

I switched to a WA account so I could raid and I didn't see my ping go above 260 once. Just gotta put up with it until my cancellation goes through I suppose.

If you enable Turbocharge is there any change in the packet loss on TeamSpeak?

Would you be able to test the packet loss to any other Team Speak servers?

Was this to World of Warcraft?

Did you have latency to any other services last night?

Hi,

I also am on a 10 Mbit uncapped bundle and looked at the prices of a capped 150+150 on 10 Mbit, but I dont seem to find the option that iis lower than what I am paying now.

According to the website 150+150 is 599R + capped bundle line 578R or am I overlooking something?

Already tested it on the NAG ts server that one of the Afrihost support guys said I should test with. Same story. Get packet loss on that one as well.
When I switch to WA the packet loss also goes away on this server.

The actual website only lists the most popular options, if you click the Sign-up Now option, you will be taken to a page where you can select from significantly more Capped options, allowing you to create a Bundle to your own needs.

Okay, now that is definitely worrisome, I want to check on something from my side, can I PM you if I need you to check something for me?
