It looks like we're receiving a flood of incoming authentication requests, our Team is checking why authentication requests are not successful.

I'm able to authenticate now though tracert is showing issue with exchange

so I sit here at 05:38 and the bloody shaping did not budge ... not after 11pm, not after 12am, not after 2am and not bloody now

Really glad I have cancelled, this is BS

Once again Afrihost has network capacity issues. I am shaped to 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P... early on a Saturday morning.

Really, its just pathetic. I understand the need to shape during peak hours, and even during work hours. But its the weekend. There shouldn't be a need to. Yet here we are.

Afrihost has really lost the plot. I don't know if Gian knows what he is doing anymore, but the company has hit rock bottom. When Telkom home uncapped performs better than your account, you know you are in trouble.

I have cancelled my uncapped account, and I am cancelling my company's business account on Monday. Both are just not performing. And Afrihost seem to be okay with giving me a terrible level of service.

Have you guys updated to the latest Afrihost app for Android Version 2.0.0... you can now view your usage, check invoices and network notices...Nice upgrade!

Network upgrade would have been more important.

Why would you say that? Everything is rocking on Afrihost side, and when you don't get an awsome service from them then it's your own fault because of your setup. /Irony off

All joking aside, I'm asking myself why I am paying for a 10 Mbit line when I can only use 12% of it's capacity?

AH Bullshit.jpg

AH has the shaper on 24h a day for weekends and come Monday it will be "oh sorry" and shrug ......... bunch of frauds

I signed up with CW yesterday ...... so far the streaming and gaming is ace.

I am looking at them too, the only concern I am having is the fact that I am streaming all my TV and that this could be shaped when used during peak hours. At least on the Basic Uncapped, or did you go for the premium one?

I looked at my usage for the last year and went with the option of having 2 capped accounts based on that. If one acts up, I can hopefully switch and carry on :)

My Afrihost is terrible this weekend. Struggling use Gmail and online banking. It looks like all HTTPS traffic is being shaped to death.

Hey Afriguy

Can you confirm that Afrihost throttle sites with the word 'torrent' in their URL? I was looking at an article about torrent piracy (and it torrent in its url), and the page just wouldn't load. I tested it on my work internet (CrystalWeb) and it loaded in a flash.

I thought it was strange, so I gave it a test. And I found that none of the sites I tried, that had the word 'torrent' would load up. (such as torrentz.eu, quicktorrent.io). Yet, they load up perfectly on other ISPs.

I just find it a weird that you shape P2P programs (which is fine), but also shape sites with the word torrent in it. It feels so random!

Greetings :)

Nope, no such thing on our network. Not even sure throttling based on keywords exists? Anyway.
Shaping is run on the network, but is done based on the overall demand of the network, and is done based on protocols and packet signatures.

Browsing any sites, whether torrent, P2P etc related - won't be shaped, as it's HTTP.

Same thing happened to me last week. Same again right now. Don't believe it.

I wasn't aware of the authentication issue, was spending some long overdue time with my favourite couch!

From what I understand it was not a long issue - but will get more info when the team is around to update me.

Remember that shaping is demand based. There is always the possibility that demand could spike at any time, though generally we see repeatable patterns and trends. We only rarely see major deviations like major OS releases, etc.

I'm pretty sure nobody would be shaped 24/7, unless they are literally one of the biggest users on the network. I'd be happy to check your shaping log if you want to be sure whether you're not getting unshaped as you should be. Just PM me.

Network upgrade would have been more important.

I think it's a little unreasonable to expect all our teams to stand down until one issue is resolved. Everyone who needs to be allocated to the network problems are doing whatever can be done, but I don't think any company in the world is going to simply suspend all other activities when one part of the business is facing some challenges.

Why do you say that you only get 12% of the capacity? Are you seeing a generally slow line or are you referring to shaped services here?

We definitely don't shape 24/7. If that did happen (and so far I have not seen any evidence of this) then it would be a system error. It does not serve us in anyway to do so (in fact, it would create a lot of problems for us because of upstream agreements, etc).
