Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

my torrents have been creeping along at 0,1-0,3kb since last night at around 7pm and no change now. that is truly unacceptable on a 1mb line. afrihost needs to sort their stuff out

I was getting full speed after 12 last night. But now that its just after 8am, my speeds are back down to 30kbps. I thought it was Monday for a second!

I'm guessing even the weekends are shaped now. A sad state of affairs.

I guess this is them making things 'better'. Time to move on.

yeah they are definitely shaping on weekends as well. im considering openweb as i've heard good reviews. afrihost had their chance and they keep giving excuses like their QoS policies. definitely time to move on

I see the Afrihost Android app is not giving me what my data consumption currently is. It just tells me that my line is active, gives me an IP address but where the bar graph reflects data used, there is nothing there.

Anyone else?

Yep same here. Not very useful as it is.

Yip, I think it's broken. Only 1 of my 3 accounts show data usage.

Seems on speed has died!
On News server I am getting 1KB/s and on torrents I am getting 2KB/s.
Speeds have been flying all weekend or could it be that I've used 15GB of data this month so far?!?!
Surely that isn't QoS policy?

BTW News server speed is now at 0KB/s...

Up until now I have lurked on this forum since 2009. There has been nothing in all this time that has incensed me enough to have to make my first post (well, up until now).

Afrihost you have had my business for over 2 years, during this time I have paid you thousands of rands. When this whole move to MTN happened (including your spin stories about how wonderful it was going to be) - my line started to degrade. I complained more than once via email, and sat waiting in the line on your pathetically understaffed telephone help desk for at least a few hours. I was promised more than once that "priority" support would be taking a look at my issues, and that the problem was probably my side due to too many concurrent downloads, or was sometimes offered an even more ludicrous excuse that the cloud servers (http port 80) that I was downloading software from were "slow". Yes, that must be it. I'm sure that excuse works every time with Granny Smith from Potch - but it doesn't work with me I'm afraid.

This post serves to kindly inform you that I have had it with your pathetic line speeds and even worse customer service. I have tried from my side to get these issues resolved. I've begged, I've pleaded.

If you are a lurker on these forums like I was and are looking to go with an ISP, in my OWN EXPERIENCE I would NOT in any way recommend you sign up for an uncapped ADSL package with Afrihost. I have never come across a company with so many excuses.

Afrihost - I'm sick of your pathetic service and I am moving away ASAP. That is if this form is ever posted, I will not be surprised if my user session time outs before the 0.5kb of text here gets posted.

From the looks of things you guys have put all your clients on a shared 56k modem. And the modem is running on the same number that you run your helpdesk from. Tsk.

In any case I just came to say... Toodle-loo.

Right on man, these issues have been going on for how long now since the MTN move? To the point where it's just basically grand theft taking place every month. I changed ISP last year already after dealing with the same ****ty service thousands are STILL dealing with, but now it just pisses me off to see how ripped their subscribers are getting every month. Seriously guys catch a wake up

You don't speak for everyone though. Some of us are happy with the situation and know that it will get even better soon.

Ok here is my second post in 4 years.

If your above quote is referring to myself, where did I claim to be speaking for any group of users? I am speaking from my own dealings with my uncapped line - particularly over the last few months. You praise Afrihost, but in this thread of posts spanning over 460 pages how many of them are complimentary since the move to MTN?

I had to call in this morning at 7:45 and there was already a queue - I sat in the queue for 35 mins as my helpdesk ticket I sent in got me nowhere. I also find it strange that a company that prides itself on customer support can not even put the helpdesk on a 0861 or tollfree number when they specifically know their users are sitting in queues for ages.

I have waited in this queue to speak to the technical guys for at least 30 mins a time, even up to an hour. You have no choice when your line is down and you need it working in order to make an income. When an 011 number is not a local call it becomes expensive as well as frustrating.

So yes - maybe you are having a wonderful time and are very happy, but I can assure you many of us aren't.

Can't particularly attribute the length of a thread to being a guide of the happiness or unhappiness of customers, people tend to be fast to complain but slow to compliment. Just look at hellopeter for another example. If things were bad overall this thread would explode

I'm sure someone who is sharing an Afrihost affiliate link in his/her signature will quite possibly focus on the company's positive attributes at all times.

Perhaps you should review my posts before spouting nonsense,if there's an issue i'm fast to report

I was referring to the post above mine. Not yours.
If you rely on your line for your income then you are using the wrong product anyway IMHO.

In your opinion what Afrihost product should a web developer like myself use then?

007-Mike - have you PM'd AfriMan at all?
Have you perhaps reboot your router lately.
I had an issue yesterday morning - Sunday - and speeds on my 4meg line were real slow.
I did a router reboot and the speeds were back to full speed up until this morning.
Many of us are actually happy with Afrihost's service - if we have issues, we contact AfriMan and those issues are sorted out in no time.

As for people complaining on this thread...people DO voice their complaints more than they would EVER voice their satisfaction and you are a good example thereof. I can assure you that many people who have complained on this thread and who's service has since improved have not come back to say that everything is fixed and they are happy....thats just how we as humans work. :) Very few of us do come back and voice our satisfaction.

That being said.
Please contact AfriMan - he WILL help you out.

I see what you're saying, and you are 100% right. But from my point of view you must also understand that I'm fed up and have been complaining about this via tickets and phone calls for a long time.

I came here because I am fed up and was about to explode, no other reason. If you guys are happy that's great, but I am/was not happy at all for a long time. I don't want to fight or argue to be honest (enough of that happens in our country) - so we can agree to disagree (if we are disagreeing that is)

Cheers and good luck. I am going back to being a professional lurker. :)

I understand your point...

You're deluded if you think PM'ing some guy at afrihost is going to improve your line speed. Rofl.
