Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Okay, so I am phoning tomorrow to cancel my account.

Phoned support regarding my slow download speeds and after doing everything the guy asked of me, and raising my cellphone bill, he tells me, my downloads are slow cause my uncapped account is shaped. My 1GB free account is fine...

Sure, he can say it is shaped, but since when do they shape http traffic?

Surely it's a million times easier just to click the red x in the clientzone?

The bottom line is that we are yet again grinding to a halt in Cape Town, sometimes max 25kbps on a 4mbps uncapped line.

When this first happened in September last year, we were told to hang on, IS is upgrading their IPC. Which they did and we had a couple of weeks of better bandwidth. Then it ground to a halt and we were told, hang on we're switching to MTN (October). We all know how that went, but we were told, hang on, we don't have our own IPC in Cape Town, we'll get that in a few weeks.

And now here we are in February, everything seems to have ground to a halt again, and the helpdesk is telling me to hang on, the IPC upgrade is in a few weeks.

The point is, I've never gone to the considerable effort of cancelling all our Afrihost lines because there is always the carrot of improvement around the corner. Anyone would feel that they're being suckered at this point, and I feel I'd be really stupid to believe that 25 February will A) Happen and B) If it does, make any difference.

I understand that you are frustrated and I apologise if any of the comment I've made we misleading to you. Reading through what you have quoted though, I must point out that I repeated several times that there was no confirmed time commitment, that it would not be earlier than January 2013, and it would be early in the year. If I could have made this more clear, I will certainly take that under advisement.

To allege that we simply mislead our clients around billing time is just simply false and unfounded. There was never any such intention from our part, and I'm fairly certain that the majority of our clients and readers in this thread do not believe this to be the case. We've been up front at all times, acknowledged where we've fallen short, and given the best and most realistic time frames possible with the information we've been given.

It is not our intention for you to feel suckered or stupid, and for that I apologise. Clearly we've lost your trust and respect, and I'd be grateful if you'd drop me a PM so we can talk about the best way forward for you.

I see several guys experiencing slow speeds in Cape Town especially.

Are any of you in the Tyger Valley, Durbanville, Bellville or Table View areas?

One speedtest tonight going as low as 3.1kB/s..... not getting more than 30kB/s.... thought it'll never go below 1mbps... and a crazy amount disconnects in battlefield. :(

Durbanville area.

Speeds were slow earlier, but now (surprisingly) seems quite good. General browsing, Youtube and Speedtest at least. :)

Tableview is rather erratic today, it's bouncing all over...
presently my ingame latency is 1673ms but speedtest is 204ms... at a lose here

Thanks for your response, I have always appreciated your forthright responses, as I'm sure you will appreciate that your service has been less than sterling since at least September last year, and the solutions have been variously put forth as being IS needing to upgrade its IPC, then the resolution was to switch to MTN, then came the protracted lack of an IPC in Cpt saga. I'm sure you can understand my frustration. And yes you did not commit to specific dates but on at least one occasion in October you referred to it as being a matter of weeks and not months which would tend to not give the expectation that we would still be waiting in February.

I'll wait and see what happens with the February 25 upgrade, but if that doesn't happen or goes wrong or gets delayed, I will be a very unhappy camper.

Thanks for engaging with me on this, I also appreciate you waiting until our full network plan is realised to make your decision.

The move to MTN was completely unrelated to issues we had with IS. It was pure coincidence that just before the cutover there were IPC issues. The move had been planned many months before that, though we were hopeful that changing to the new network, which had more capacity, would improve overall experience. We are still very confident that moving to MTN was a great decision and will reap great rewards for our clients in the long run.

Feel free to drop me a PM at any time to chat more about this, or any other issues you have :)

I think it's the Table View exchange going bonkers. Since like 2 weeks or so it's very erratic and all over the place. And one, as a customer, never knows who is to blame: Telkom, Afrihost or the game servers in the USA. I guess right now it's Telkom's fault.

Well nothing stops you from cancelling and then re-activating on the 26th (or later) IF things go according to plan. I don't think anyone here is "locked" into some contract where you can't cancel and return at any time?

I actually did precisely that. I have my cancellation pending. I just want to keep my options open.
