Wow... Afrihost can never be legitimately honest with clients it may seem.

First the whole debacle with free gifts (30gb data) 4 days before the end of the month with no roll-over
Now saying "HEY WE UNSHAPED!!! - maybe lets see"

People will fall for that.. i dont like that

I can't tell you how disgusted I am at that! Makes me sick to my stomach!

Gotta agree with you... They should know better and understand doing that is long term hurting their business

You guys are ridiculous. The have spare capacity and are unshaping the uncapped accounts for a week, after which they will assess usage and turn the shapers back on based on usage. Claiming they are trying to deceive anyone is ridiculous, because they have made it perfectly clear what they are doing from the onset. Just because some people can't read properly doesn't mean they are deceiving anyone.

I just want to thank afrihost for this kind gesture, i will make full use of it. :)

That free gifts thing is now a non issue. They are doing the free gifts thing again now, beginning of the month. Complain some more ?

I have refreshed the Afrihost page now how many times, and see nothing, where is this 1 week unshaped post?

Front page of mybb(they are not talking about just the business uncapped packages). :)

Afrihost said that its upgraded network is performing at excellent levels, which gave them the confidence to “completely all uncapped ADSL traffic”.

“The decision to do this is mainly intended to thank and reward our uncapped ADSL clients for their patience and support while the upgrades were in progress,” said Afrihost.

“The second objective is to demonstrate the capabilities of the upgraded network – in terms of delivering exceptional throughput and a low latency ADSL experience.”

Afrihost is confident that their additional capacity will more than handle the additional traffic, and after a week has passed they will re-assess their current shaping policies.

“We will absorb the cost of additional unshaped bandwidth completely,” the company said.

plebs will always complain, if you don't like marketing bundled with perks for the clients then switch to another ISP and get no perks, be they short term or not.

Well at this stage it's just for a week, so it wouldn't be ideal to advertise it too heavily. Informing MYBB about it makes sense though.

HAHAHAAH, I did not think to look at the mybb front page.
I would think a quiet newsroom post will be less obvious than a MYBB front page splash, if you don't want the whole world to know. LoL :D

Letting the geeks know they have turned off the shaper for a week makes sense. The geeks get off on inside baseball stuff like this. But not so much the grandmas of the world. :D

I'm not sure I understand the comments about us being deceptive or lying about Unshaping Uncapped.

Some people may not notice a difference, becuase due to the additional capacity going live, lights users were probably not experiencing any shaping anyway. But for at least the next week we're unshaping everyone. Short of an act of God nuking one of our new IPCs, it going to stay that way. So we want our Uncapped clients to go mad, have fun - and we'll foot the bill for the extra bandwidth.

Once the week is over, we'll review our shaping policies to see if we can give back as much capacity as possible to Uncapped clients in terms of shaping.

We have updated our newsroom, just lots of stuff being pushed out at the moment by our awesome team. It's really a GREAT time to be an Afrihost client.

This thread has become a shining example of why I'll never involve myself in a service industry, lest I end up with such entitled nincompoops for clients. **** me...

AfriMan, kudos for your continued presence in the face of such silliness.

Ignore the crazies - sadly they will always be around. The rest of us are well pleased with the changes.

I'm now off to download some HD linux distros.

To be fair, the Afrihost experience in the coastal areas has been abysmal for much of the last six months and has only been acceptable this week.

Yes, expecting to be entitled to endless unshaped uncapped bandwidth is unreasonable, but I think many of the people commenting here are paying clients who are justified in feeling "entitled" to at least the advertised service that they have been paying for.

There are two sides to the coin to any service industry like this. Yes, you have endless whining clients who can never be pleased, but you're also taking money from both those users and the vast majority who don't complain in exchange for that service, so it's not as if it's charity and somehow those providing the service are martyrs doing it for free.
