Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

So... after a couple of router resets, not that I thought it'd change anything:

FFS Afrihost! Before MTN entered the picture international latency was sometimes a little high - IS definitely wasn't the gamer's ideal. But... that was it. Everything else just worked 99% of the time. At present the only question seems to be where an Afrihost connection would be failing.

I don't particularly want to go to another ISP. The CEOs of some annoy me, others are but one head of fundamentally evil, moneygrubbing corporations, and yet others won't see my money lest their operation becomes 'unsustainable' again soon after. But this is getting wholly ridiculous.

Afriman, this is getting unacceptable. I've been hanging around through this MTN transition but these problems are getting a bit much, I do quite a bit of work from home. Why are we getting these problems over and over again?

Trying to support you guys, but it's becoming challenging. Hopefully next week everything is 100%.

Yes, that's similar to what I get. Speedtest (if it loads) and torrents seems to work? But anything else is completely useless.

After THREE router resets this morning, there is intermittent International throughput and websites load at the speed of snail :(
AfriMan, what is happening?
It's seems as if the DNS is pooped? Mybroadband even takes 1 minute to get to the main page!
Other websites crawl.
:(

Either your line is screwed or your exchange.

Try a trial account from a different ISP to see if it helps.

As for the guys having international throughput issues where are you located?

My international is fine: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2572596831.png

What I notice from the comments since last night is that Cape Town and the people connecting through the Cape Town IPC seem to be having issues now.... :(

This is possibly a question best directed at more senior people within MTN and our Dev department, but I can tell you that it's a very complex setup and the guys who run it are some of the smartest people around. As far as we know they use international standards and best practices, and the equipment used is the very top of the range. I think there are very few technical people who can really deal with the level of complexity of these issues, and the guys from MTN are some of the very best. I do understand that it may seem overly simple to some, but I am confident that this is not due to oversight or negligence on their part, and when we look at their level of passion and commitment when jumping into solve these issues, we know we've chosen a good partner.

My take on it, anyway :)

I take it that MTN employees read this forum :).

9/10 of the exchanges are over subscribed in Centurion

I know that a year or so back the problem with the exchanges in and around Centurion was that they all connect back to Doringkloof which was still on copper back to the core Telkom network, not sure if this has changed.

I am on the doringkloof exchange, normally i get about 6 to 7 Mb on my 10 Mb line and it is fairly constant, just this morning it has been behaving strange with speeds as low as 1 to 4 and then 6 again so definitely not stable. (Although it seems to have stabilized a bit now)

My speedtest and downloads are fine , but it takes ages load mybb and google :(

Same here- browsing is horrendous but nzb downloads are fine!

Same here.... About 30 minutes ago I did a speedtest and it was just under 600 KB/s.
Thought it was FINALLY back to normal...
Tried it now

It's really about time this stuff gets fixed... We're heading for April already and things has just been getting worse with time, at least for me. People are holding and forgiving, hoping for change, but people just cannot hold on forever.

throughput still low on 4mb but it is working fine otherwise

Morning guys,

I see a few people mentioning throughput issues. We do know about this, and in most cases a quick router reboot is sorting out the problem.

I would like to ask that everyone having either throughput issues or authentication issues since yesterday, please PM me their username. At the moment we're mostly confident that we know what the problem is and it's mostly due to the fixes being applied last night but will normalise after refreshing your session.
