right, been away for the long weekend so haven't checked performance for a few days so just checked now

here it is from speedtest

and here's the results from SAIX

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1183 kbps (147.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 163 kbps (20.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 690 ms

which one do I believe?

4Mb line

Try a couple of servers. I find the "closest" server to me often is congested and slow.

For some weird reason, I also cannot connect to Google from my home 1MB Afrihost DSL, but it's working happily at work which is using a 4MB Afrihost line.

Edit: I've tried using Afrihost, SAIX & Google's own DNS servers.

Maybe you have damaged or set something wrong in your Operating System or Router and now you cannot get to Google.

Like you say at your work it is perfect, and I have no problems with Google.

So logic says, you have something localized that is messed up.
That same "something" might also cause your bad performance.

Downloading a Youtube video with Keep It at 540KB/s. Whilst downloading from the Play Store at 30-50KB/s. I'm on business 6Mbps. Keep it up Afrihost.

Still latency problems here.

Cant even get onto ClientZone.

When will this be sorted out?

Show some trace routes so we can see, the problem can be at many places.
Your Telkom Exchange
The Afrihost IPC or DCA
Places along your route.
Server you trying to reach

Bad latency does not = immediately Afrihost mistake/problem, it can be many factors on the route.
A trace route will most often reveal where the problem lies.

Hey Guys

See a few guys talking about being shaped too aggressively. I totally feel what you guys are saying, especially 10Mbps clients who have only done 40-50GB. The thing to remember is that the shaping is calculated on your usage patterns over a 30 day period / window. It's not just a calculation on totals, the system analyzes usage patterns over time to determine which policies to apply on an individual basis.

Second thing to remember is that it is always relative to available to capacity at that given moment. If demand is extremely high, especially for real time services, even very light users could be shaped to protect the network and to ensure that real time services do not suffer for all clients, and that the network can always deliver the best experience possible (as opposed to unusable internet which happens with throttling). Only Torrents and File Sharing are shaped to the percentage value. HTTP downloads will not be shaped to that extent, though I don't have the exact figures for each policy, we try to keep those services are max speeds as well.

Now that Northern, East Coast and Southern Region each have their own IPC, shaping is done individually on each IPC. I'm guessing that most people reporting heavy shaping are in the Southern region, as it seems the demand is fairly heavy in relation to capacity. However, since shaping is always at that moment in time, at some point most users in the region will be unshaped in the late hours or overnight.

You following a different route then us here in Cape Town, maybe via Japan :)

I can not believe this I have not use the afrihost account for 3 month and used the mweb account
I only download 35 gig last month and I be on 10 %
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1364931228.963665.jpg

I think your system is not working you don't have the capacity to Handel all the user
I think I have to cancel my account with afrihost after the mtn upgrade afrihost is not the same
I'm running a recording studio and most of the product are downloaded and up to 30 gig
And with your speed over the weekend is not working for me

Following the logic, I found the problem. Just a Hosts entry from something I was testing last month & forgot to remove. :D

Hi Afriman ,are there latency issues in the gauteng area? is this related to the network notice on your website? just asking, if it is then ill chill until the notice is lifted :)
i've been having latency issues for the last 2 days, just redialing the pppoe connection, not even rebooting the adsl router fixes it for a few hours, www.bbc.net.uk is between 400 and 700ms when things get bad, 10mb uncapped. ill post traceroutes and stuff a bit later. repeated the same tests on a FNB account or afrihost capped account, and didnt run into these issues.

regards
dakhaas

Hi Afriman

Is there a reason that I'm getting routed differently to the other users?

My guess is, that it is due to the restoration routes that are being used whiles the cables in the Mediterranean sea are being repaired.
I am sure it will change back to normal route and latency when the cables are repaired.

Get a Business uncapped - if you run on a business and need the internet, I suggest Business and not a Home product.
It is un-metered and un-shaped during office hours, and mostly after hours too!

I have never experienced any shaping on Business Ever.

It was fine for the first two days i was with AH. Been like this since IPC went down the other day.

Afriman, I understand what you are saying about total capacity.
However: for the guys on the leaderboards to pull over 300GB a month on a 1MB line, they must be just about maxing their line speed, 24/7 the entire month. If shaping is dynamic based on use & overall demand, how the buggery is that possible, if us normal users get 50-95% reductions for doing far less than that?

Do the math - assuming a 31 day month & use of the 1000 orders (1000kb=1mb, etc) the current leader "1 Supreme Overlord le********[email protected] 331.06 GB " needs to run 123.60364396654719235364396654719 kbps 24/7 for 30 days to reach that. I don't even get that sort of sustained rate for things like Youtube streaming.
