They can get telkom to phone you, thats about it (if your lucky). From my experience, Afrihost have no more pull than you or i when it comes to telkom. Apparently 'managing your line' does not mean what i thought it meant...

The ISP's that do line rental only offer to manage it on your behalf. They can reset your port, change your sync rate and deal with Telkom for you (things you could otherwise instruct Telkom to do), with just a brief phone call to your ISP. I find that service very convenient, and they charge me less than Telkom for the privilege. Obviously only Telkom can actually deal with issues relating to their infrastructure.

Hopefully they will bug Telkom as much as possible for repairs

Hopefully, but I think Telkom is impervious to complaints. There are some individuals on this forum who report heckling Telkom daily to no avail. I recall one member being told by Telkom that they're not fixing his exchange because 1Mbps is possible, and they have more pressing issues. He was running a 4 or 10Mbps account I think.

Pulled over 80Gb's for this month. No issues, throttling or funny slowdowns.

Kids like it to watch cartoons on youtube. Great stuff!

Why do I need to get DSTv just for cartoons?

We really need competition on the local loop level.

I'm struggling to stream 128kbps on TuneIn Pro. Neither me nor anyone else on my home network is downloading or Youtubing (not that Youtube works). If I do download, speeds are fine. What good is bandwidth if it can only be accessed by a download manager? My account sucks for everything but downloading.

Why? :wtf:

We only shape when network demand is high. The higher the network demand the more aggressively we need to shape protocols like P2P. This is to prevent congestion and increased latency. As network demand decreases, the less shaping is applied.

Currently minimal shaping is being applied, if any.

So the more new customers u get the more u punish your old customers?

I don't think that's what he is saying.

He is saying the more the network is under load, the more shaping is applied. If there are new customers, who are not using their network heavily, then the load will still be minimal.

Youtube and Play Store performance is becoming a critical issue. I'm getting complaints from every family member, and I'm at the end of my limit too. If it hasn't improved drastically by the 24th I'm going to cancel my account and find a new ISP.

I look like a right clot when I tell my family that we're on a great new business account with Afrihost that's 50% faster than our old Mweb one, yet neither any PC, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, TV nor Android device can even stream 480p Youtube. Particularly embarrassing when you happen to have guests crowded around waiting for a funny or interesting video to load.

New, old? Nah! Looks like everybody gets shaped the same whether new old, big or small.

As we are only shaping protocols such as P2P and the like, the higher the network demand, the more clients we need to shape. We start at the top with the heaviest users and move our way down as required. If we are able to decrease demand only shaping the high end users then we don't need to effect anybody else, but as seen last night, we needed to shape more than just the heavy users to protect the network.

Shaping is only applied during periods of high demand to protect the network.

Lol - high demand at 8pm at night - just shows you have more home users than corporate.

EDIT: And maybe its time to think that 60% more oomph is not enough.

Downloading cccleaner at 12KB/s on a 2mb uncapped business account. Wtf

I can hardly load a page but on my Openweb test account I get close to full 2mb speeds
