So it's Afrihost after all, naughty naughty....

I think in all fairness it is a combination of Afrihost and Telkom congestion. However today without a doubt internet is useless on Afrihost and full speed on Openweb

???

Well, typically, during business hours on my 4MB Gold the reverse is true. Why I've cancelled.

Afrihost network seems fine, your problems are probably due to some kind of congestion today. I haven't had one day yet where my uncapped 4Mbit has not been running at full speed (380KB/s -420KB/s) regardless of the time of day. There is no difference for me between 1pm and 1am.

local is almost always fine, the International is what seems to be the problem. Since your speed is fine to your Canadian server, you are lucky.

From what I understand, congestion has really become an issue in the cities. Telkom is not delivering a service that is on par with what consumers are paying for.

I feel for those who are unable to enjoy their internet on todays public holiday due to congestion, but perhaps we should raise our concerns towards Telkom upgrading their infrastructure.
What I can't quite make clear of is why Lino is experiencing better throughput when he changes his ISP acc, could that perhaps point blame towards somebody else than Telkoms with regard to congestion problems?

Also having weird congestion issues with Telkom according to broadbandstats.co.za I'm connected to WYNBERG UMC B40B1 (WWG+)
but that means there's 2 exchanges closer to me than the one I'm connected to?!?! Moving dslam's isn't hard and a engineer can have a specialist move it over in a few minutes. Specially if Telkom has no indication of upgrading an exchange and there customer base has a degraded experience because of it.

Could also be congestion on telkom's IPC link to afrihost ... Different ISPs use different IPC.

Broadbandstats.co.za doesn't seem to be very accurate, as when I search my tel no. it tells me I'm connected to Kloof which is 10mb enabled where I know I only have max 4mb available, also Gillitts exchange which says max 4mb points to the same place as Kloof.

EDIT: NKLO & NGIL

Could be, but then why only on Afrihost? I'm sure other networks should also be congested then?

Also don't entirely understand this Broadband.co.za site. It says my exchange is 10mbps enabled, but the max speed on the exchange is 4096KBps...which is not true, since I am syncing at 10mbps?

I believe it is user submitted data, when did your adsl go up to 10Mbps?

Only last month. It seems to register that the exchange is 10mbps enabled, but the max speed is 4096. So, a user that is actually getting the 10mbps should change it?

Unfortunately, the iPad is all we offer. When you win is all up to the random.org

Hi Afriman/Afrigirl!

I just wanted to know if you guys offer free trials for several days? I'm having major issues with my ISP at the moment and just wanted to test your guys network as it looks like I'll be moving soon!

Thanks Oliver

Youtube and Play Store performance is becoming a critical issue. I'm getting complaints from every family member, and I'm at the end of my limit too. If it hasn't improved drastically by the 24th I'm going to cancel my account and find a new ISP.

I look like a right clot when I tell my family that we're on a great new business account with Afrihost that's 50% faster than our old Mweb one, yet neither any PC, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, TV nor Android device can even stream 480p Youtube. Particularly embarrassing when you happen to have guests crowded around waiting for a funny or interesting video to load.

I'm on MWEB 4mbps and I can't even watch in 240p :(

Which 4Mbps account? My 1GB Mweb account ran Youtube rather well. Youtube never used to be an issue for me on 4Mbps Mweb Premium.

Uncapped Premium :) It's been like this for the past week.. They've always been the best for me up until now :(

I applied for ADSL account + Telkom line migration to Afrihost 2 days ago. How long does line migration usually take? I haven't been given a time frame so I don't know how long this is going to take...
