Hi bar_Rat, that is something wrong with your exchange and has nothing to do with Afrihost. If you notice, your first hop is 81, 100, 97 ms to your local exchange or DSLAM (Green telkom box).

Okay Seriously

Its done this before but it seems random and not all the time.

Seems KZN is getting shaped a bit, damn East Coast pirates nyahaha

From what i've seen CT is generally p2p/download shaped during the day. Too many mouths trying to collect the net :)

This might be a silly question but if you have line (line and ISP) bundle with Afrihost, can you use your router on another line that is not in the bundle?

Had a weird one today. Wanted to test my sisters line (hers is with Nashua), but my router gave PAP authentication errors and request denied. So either Nashua lock the line down to Nashua usernames, or I cannot connect with my bundled username on another line.

Forgot to try my capped username to test but hey, this is what forums are for :)

I am so tempted to move over from Telkom, but it seems it is just the same at AH. Will it ever get better?

Shaping is only applied to P2P protocols and the like when network demand is high. This is to ensure realtime services.

When shaping needs to be applied, we shape from the top down. The longer the demand remains high, the more accounts we need to shape. As soon as demand decreases, we start to relax shaping.

Shaping is only applied for the time frame where network demand is high. Each account is re-evaluated every time shaping either needs to be applied or relaxed.

Uncapped ADSL accounts are locked down to a single number. You can request this number to be changed via our Support Center if needs be.

So you saying people that are doing between 30-100gb are near the top? If so then you should change your leader board and say that those guys are on unshaped packages and show a leader board for people not on business accounts and who get shaped into the ground

Last month I did 100gb in total and was not shaped. This month I have done 97gb and am now shaped to death. You cant tell me this is not related somehow.

EDIT: Shaping off my account now. Hope it was just for today

Guys, I'm on a 4meg uncapped bundle and enjoying it. I did notice shaping starting from 18% onward on the days I was on leave and dloading (during the day). I normally dload from Rs, Mf or Rg and the speeds during those days were little to no degradation, I don't p2p.

I suggest a business uncapped account if you dload during the day while your after hours speeds may or may not falter, just my few cents on this shaping debacle :)

edit: Oh...and Afriman did say so ;)
