I feel that I am a very important man in my village and so searching is beneath me.

I want to get the R897 10mb line Bundle

1) When do I stop paying telkom and when do I pay Afrihost or do they sort all of that out for me?
2) I want to do about 300gb a month. Also I want to run Hulu. Will this work

Baie dankie.

+1 for honesty! :)

Afrihost handles everything, and I use netflix + Hulu on the same account as you are wanting to get :) and I am happy for the most part, you only pay once the line has moved.

Between telkom and afrihost I have no clue what is going on!

I can get the line upgrade but no one will tell me when, so we need to put some pressure on them!

Telkom definitely should not be giving you conflicting information. We'll have to look into what the exact issue is, and I'll get you some concrete feedback as soon as I can :(

Sort of the same question as above.

Would Afrihost mind if I'm running my Netflix / Hulu traffic through a VPN? I know some ISPs are a bit iffy about running a lot of traffic through one.

Hi Afriman quick question. If I migrate my line to Afrihost what exactly happens? Is it just administrative stuff or is there actual work that needs to be done at the exchange? And if so what? I assume there's something that changes right if i can do all those additional stuff on clientzone. Just wondering how things might change "except for cheaper price of course"

All they do is talk to telkom on your behalf. Nothing much changes, telkom still does the support

@jeanres. Do you get HD on 10mbps line? Any buffering, etc? I've just started using Netflix on my 4mbps line and wanted to know if it was worth it going to 10.

:-)

Now you know why I prefer to keep my line with telkom, Canalwalk Cape Town service centre is "AWESOME" !

The only thing I think that changes is the lack of clarity on issues.

The lack of communication from the ISP to Telkom and the other way around can be a massive problem

Billing is a little different between Telkom and Afrihost. Telkom bill in arrears where Afrihost bill in advance. We do ensure that you are not paying twice for the same service though. We sort all of that out when you sign the line up with us. There's no need to do more than that :)

Streaming is never shaped on any of our uncapped products, regardless of usage. Judging by average usage, 300GB should be pretty easy on a 10Mbps line.

All our information is based on what Telkom give us. We check on their ADSL Checker, their internal systems, and test order submission before we advise clients of whether they can have VDSL. However, Telkom are still working on updating their systems and they do misreport sometimes. We are doing everything possible from our side to ensure that we have verified information before we give feedback to clients.

Telkom unlocks frontline support and administrative functions on their internal portals to us, but the physical line does not change. Telkom does not allow any other technicians to have access to their infrastructure and continue to action faults or maintenance on the network.

Apparently not.....

I see. It's just in my place in the UK my dsl is also with another ISP and not BT but when my line is transferred to my ISP there are changes at the exchange (your line is transferred to dedicated network card of your ISP) but yes only BT can still work on that line.

So if I'm having issues on my line i still have to talk to Telkom? :(

No you call us first. We do initial troubleshooting, and if there is further action needed, we log the fault with Telkom and follow up on your behalf, so you never need to contact them except with regard to your voice line.
