Are you using your Turbocharge sessions?
Yes but I only get 5. If I want more I have to buy. Right now, for the first time, there is no shaping. Plus I should be able to download more then 83gigs without being shaped

It is definitely possible, even with shaping, if you look at the leaderboard. We're not really trying to limit how much bandwidth everyone gets, we just want to get maximum use out of the network, and make sure that latencies never go out of range for premium real time services. R29 buys you 4 hours on 2Mbps, so that is also pretty reasonable :)

Afriman you missed his point, you understood him to mean he must be able to download a larger amount when what he meant was that his shaping should not have switched on until a higher limit say 150 gigs

Afrirock any update on the Telkom outage in Durbanville?

Ok so why then? are http downloads just not allowed?

Basically to not clog the network with download traffic so that browsing and streaming suffers - they cap that traffic down to give the rest priority. Downloads are allowed just won't be given full speed at times where the IPC is under load - and unfortunately in CPT, that's pretty much all the time.

Ok, I'm not understanding. on nntp I get between 200 and 350k, does that not count as a download? Http never goes above 40k. thats got nothing to do with load.

HTTP downloads are treated differently to P2P. While we do also shape them, they will never be shaped to the same extent as torrents and we try to keep HTTP downloads at best speeds possible while trying to protect the network from increases in latency.

Pretty good answer (thought about working for us? LOL)

The priority is always protecting the network to give best performance, we're not concerned with limiting how much bandwidth you can access. That's why I strongly encourage everyone to use the off-peak hours for heavy downloads. If more people do that, and spread the demand over a longer period in the 24 hour cycle, there'll be a lot more freedom for everyone on the network.

So then if they are not shaped, why am I experiencing such slow speeds on a http download? They are honestly crawling. On my capped account the http downloads fly so it is definitely only the uncapped account.
I am aware of the issue with bandwidth, and I do schedule my downloads between 11pm and 6am.

Check your controlpanel to see the percentage if shaping applied. If no shaping is applied, I suggest you let Afriman take a look at your account to see where the problem lies. Is it only downloads or is your ping also bad?

I want to change my 2mb uncapped bundle to a 4mb uncapped bundle. Can I simply make the switch in the Client Zone, or do I need to unbundle everything first?

Excuse my ignorance but what is the issue with AH and CPT? I must admit that I too am struggling here in CPT with HD on my 4mb line on Netflix and Hulu Plus. Amazon is even worse but that may be due to Unotelly not being optimised for that service.

If you are downloading at a time when the shaper is acting on the network, there could be momentary latency and throughput issues while it makes changes. Remember, it also adjust gradually to find the best balance so that process can last several minutes.

If your downloads are consistently different, with no shaping applied, we'll need to investigate further. Drop me a PM :)

Are you on Capped or Uncapped? Either way, streaming is given priority whether you are shaped or unshaped. Can't speak for the Unotelly DNS issue, we generally recommend that you use our DNS (dynamic) for best results.

No, you should be able to upgrade within your bundle, as long as it's a bundle eligible product :)
